Life without an Upkeep Phase

"In spite of these numbers we decided not to remove upkeep from Magic, at the time, but knew we would eventually have to. It is unlikely that upkeep will still be a part of Magic by early 2007.

This is another potentially huge announcement leaked to the Magic community through Ask Wizards in just a few days. Obvioiusly, this would mean a huge Oracle overhaul rendering cards like Eon Hub completely obsolete and could affect the way that so many decks in vintage work.

I would imagine there would still be an upkeep-like phase for the triggers like Smokestack and Oath...but this annoucnement is going to make my head asplode with possibilites.

Man, that was a weak joke. Cantrips got shifted to an immediate draw during Weatherlight, but that poll lists the current phases, not the 5th edition ones.

edit: people are apparently actually being fooled by this, so I'll remind people that a 1000-person survey is actually statistically meaningless when it comes to Magic policy.

Yeah, plus the fact that the draw phase only ranks 4th for most popular phase, kinda gives away this research was bogus  :lol:
