Congrats to David Ochoa who demolished a field of 48 players to win a Mox Jet.
I'll post decklists when I find them out, but they will be availiable soon on www.norcalmagic.proboards79.c om and perhaps "DeckFest's" own site (if they have one.).

1st: David Ochoa Jet
2nd: Oath guy Workshop
3rd: Kevin Schambers Library
4th: Fish Guy Box of Jap Ravnica

Top 8:
David Ochoa playing Bob Tendrils Versus Luis Scott-Vargas playing Bob Tendrils (Luis scoops to David as they are buddies)
Victor Andersen playing StormDrain versus Kevin Schambers playing Bob Tendrils (Keven wins)
Some Guy playing Oath (sacramento) versus Cory playing Dragon (Oath wins)
Some Guy playing Fish (SoCal) versus John Hodges playing Tendrils (Fish wins)

Top 4:
Fish vs Oath (Oath wins with Simic SkySwallower and broken 1G enchments)
Keven Tendrils versus Ochoa Tendrils (Ochoa won)

Finals (and 3/4 matchups)
Ochoa Tendrils Stomps Oath
Kevin Tendrils stomps Fish

now for pics!

The Prizes! Jet, Shop, Library, Box of Russian Ravnica and Unique Trophies for each in Top 4 (The Lotus was just for show, unless say, 100 people showed up...)

Top 8: Fish vs Oath: Simic Sky Swallower Pwns Fish

Top 4 Kevin vs David. Let's see, Kevin has no hand, David has 2 Bob's and a full grip.

Oath vs Dragon. No pics of actual game in progress. Sorry had to spend some time at the BlackJack tables.

Fish vs Kevin's Storm: Lunar couldn't get flash to work, so I made pic "better" by making it look old.

Finals: Oath vs Mind's Desire for 13 (still in progress at this point)

Chris Rush was there signing cards, and I got to take this video of a sweet Foil Black Lotus:
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=797353984&n=2

I did terrible with The Gilded Claw.  It just didn't perform.  This is my first major sucking at a tourney since Worlds '94 when I got eaten alive by Fish in SlapJack's early days.

My teammate Austin Martinez drew into 9th place and got robbed of top 8 due to lousy tiebreakers (even though two of his opponents made top 8).  Chris Rush and Jeff, the owner of Who's on First arranged to get Austin a "Black Lotus" drawn by Chris Rush on a blank magic Card as "9th place prize" which was frikkin awesome. (Austin is 12 and has won a Mox Sapphire already, and now he can brag that he also won a LOTUS??? Suck on THAT Vroman!!! lol)

Again, decklists soon, and more on lunar's site www.norcalmagic.proboards79.c om

The Oath Player said his buddies hooked him up with the list the night before, also the first time he piloted the list (well, the night before was the first time he piloted the list.).

The Finals versus Webster was fairly predicatble, as Webster is HardCore and playing Broken Tendrils versus Oath. (a generalization, true)

The semi-finals (versus Fish) I only saw the Fish player's hand.  Oath wasn't exactly attempting to resolve Null Rod, bud did play Chalice for 1 at one point.

Yep, you owe me now Jacob  Razz

The Oath guy hasnt played Magic in a while and his buddies told him that T1 was the best format so now I guess he is focusing on it a bunch...they hooked him up with the whole deck the night before (not just the list, heh) He is a Sacramento guy (which is cool, Sacramento is definatly moving up)

Still waiting on lists.

ICBM Oath?  I really can't tell from the pics...

I'm pretty sure it was the current ICBM build from what I saw during the tournament.

The Oath player is my friend John. We made the deck for him the night before...what a way to pick it up!

He was running a build that was mostly ICBM oath...from what I can remember...it had Mana Leaks instead of Mana Drains, which was probably the better choice except for about 2 situations the entire day. There were some other small changes...the only one I can remember ATM is 1 Misdirection in MD and and SB was different.

The drains actually wern't too important in the list other than the fact that it allows you to maintain hard counters after the first few turns.  But now, with SSSwallowers in the Sideboard, they actually become quite a focus, since the swallower is the 2nd easiest creature to hardcast ever in oath (Triskelion being the first, but its not played in our list anymore).

Austin rolling with the big boys.  Webster was Austin's only loss (Austin went 4-1-1 but failed to make top 8) Notice is calculator to keep track of life Yu-Gi-Oh! style!

Lunar getting munched on by Hate.dec

Round 6: Cory (Dragon) versus Stew (Tendrils)

Cory has no field during game 3, as a Diabolic Edict and Tormod's Crypt ruin his plans.  Unfortunately, a draw would happen as the game goes to time.  As this was a "WAY CASUAL" event, a die-roll was used to determine the winner.  Cory rolled a 2 on a 20 sided dice.  Stew rolled a 1. Just like t1.  This, among other things, pushed a 12 year old's 4-1-1 record out of top 8.

My lame report:
Round 1 I get paired up against a guy I don't know playing a deck I don't know.  Luckily he doesn't know me either and mulligians on the draw.
I tutor for Strip Mine and play a Crucible of Worlds.  My opponent plays Ruby, Welder, Waste, Crypt, Crucible and controls the rest of game 1.
Game 2 I play Chalice for 0, wasteland go, and my opponent plays mountain, Mox Monkey, go.
I eventualy get 5 mana to lay down a Razormane Masticore, but he has 2 dupes in hand to deal with it and whatever else I may have. I lose both games.

Round 2: I lose to UB Control (like Proxy Morphlings).  Game 1 I ride Trinisphere to victory.
Game 2 was close.  Double Bob beatdown and Bob reveal damage get us both  to about 2.  Unfortunately, his last reveal turns up Land and Bob swings for the kill.
Game 3: I lay down Chalice for 0, 1 and get 2 Sphere's of Resistance out, but Erayo beats, Wretch Beats and eventually Morphling beats do me in.  I drew a Jugg way to late.

Round 3: My opponent fails to show up.

Round 4: Jon w/Control Slaver.
Game 1: I get early cap and take out DSC, Slaver and Trike. We draw go for a while, then I play Trike and he conceeds.
Game 2: He gets Welder and Tinkers up something to make me lose.
Game 3: I get Chalice for 1 turn 1.  10 Turns later, I get MWS to play MindSlaver and control 1 of his turns.  His hand was full of Brainstorms, tutors and Welders.  He casts them all, and I play Trisk for the win.
Yay! I won a game!

Round 5: I play on because who knows, 4-2-0 might make it.
Richie Oath
He plays Orchard and Oath and I lose.

Sad
This is the first time The Gilded Claw has simply failed me (or failed to lucksack wins) and I am sad.

Yeah, the only two things I didnt like about this great tournament (and I do beleive it was a good well run tournament that I will re-attend in the future) was that even though it was "casual" it was TOO casual and the judging was way too light for the size of the field and the prizes.

The only other thing was that there was a HUDGE drop in prize structure after top 4...5th-8th got almost nothing.

BUt other than those two things really great!

screw that, I raped that casino for another $2.25 later on...

True though, they did have bags and hats for pre-registered people and whatnot, but its still a BIG drop from 4th to 5th.

I think that prize pay out OK.  They did give out more most events do to top 4.  I think that the majority of mox events 5th-8th don't don't much either.  Players don't go to events for 5th-8th place prizes.  I would re-attend if the pay out was the same.  If it was only first place for a mox, or any other piece of power I would pass.  There are many other shops closer to me that I could play at.  For me I have to way out if the pay out is worth the distance involved for travel.  I kind of think of 2nd-4th as bonus prizes.

the drop was from like major prizes all the way to 4th to a draft set of ravnica block or something though, heh..

it was more like 4 first prizes and nothing else...I was just thinking it could be more of a swing...

1st: Mox
2nd: less than mox
3rd: less than that
4th: less than that
5th less than that
6th less than that
etc
etc
etc

instead of

1st: mox
2nd: almost mox
3rd: almost mox of similar value
4th: T2 prize with value similar to 2nd-3rd in reality.
5th: nothing

Its not really a big deal, which is why I tried not making it a big deal, heh...just something I was thinking about when I saw some people with some pretty dissapointed lookson their face

Giving 9th place the same packs PLUS another prize also has to suck for 5th-8th players too.

9th place got what they got because Christopher Rush and myself requested that Austin get it because he was nice and polite everytime he came over and talked to us. Kindness pays off sometimes and that day it did for 9th place. Grats to all the winners and Austin.

The event was very well run and the Prize support was more then fair for everyone. 1st class event anyway you look at it.

Nah, thats cool jeff, just thought it was odd that 9th got more than 5th is all...but yes, austin is a good kid. If it was a "coolness" prize from you guys and not a 9th place consolation prize then thats 100% cool with me and then 5th shouldnt feel let down by getting next to nothing. The only reason I even mentioned prize support for 5th-8th was because one of the TO's even mentioned it to me that they wish they had more for 5th through 8th and might fix that next time.

Though I still find it cool that a guy from my area made it to the top 4. It is the first time he went to such a bif event I think. To bad I could not go (nor did his grop invite me). But it also does make it more fun when I beat him down at the type 1 FNM the week after that comp (namely last fryday). Just got to love how things work out Smile.

Plus I do see someone played against Jhon and posted it.

But what I have seen of the event it looked like it was a ball.
