Because you asked for it: The Centismal: Mailbag Into My Life For his 100th article for StarCityGames, Stephen tries something a little different: he answers questions posed by readers on a variety of Magic and non-Magic subjects! He looks back over his collected works, and shares a little of his successes and failures. He describes his brief flirtation with facial hair, and pens a poem to his favorite card of all time! Congratulations on your 100, Stephen... here's to the next milestone! http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/article/12304.htmlRead my Ode to Black Lotus!

good article. I wanted to know the answer to the short shorts question though, well...maybe not that question so much as "does the thought of stephen jumping up and down on a bed singing the nair song in short shorts make anyone else want to claw their eyes out?"

LOL my question was more a shot at ICBM than an actual question, but you hit the nail on the head. Kudos!

Digging the Depths GB Enchantment On your upkeep, reveal the top 3 cards of your library, you may put them in any order and you may switch any of the cards revealed from your library with cards from your graveyard.
That seems so stupidly busted.
Ancestral Lotus DEmonic tutor
Every turn. REplaying any draw spell every turn would be stupid. Just think gifts every turn setting up a crazy GY and recurring it every turn.
It would be crazy fun though.
Great 100th artical.

Ahhhh, Steve, how far we've come. I remember working on that first article with you, back then it was hard to find a good Vintage tournament and we regularly had to play for product. Lord knows I didn't play those tournaments for the product, that sucks - Type 1 was about pride and smashing people so hard they didn't realize it could possibly be over already, but I guess it's still about those things to a lot of us. Back then, there were very few good Vintage players and huge number of n00bs that just happened to own some power. Well I won't say I didn't enjoy pwning events without effort (I never used to test, I'd just pick up the best new deck and win), what we have now is so much more rewarding.

They should have used this article as a teaser (read: free) to promote premium. Well done!

Awww Scott, you are too nice - but I know it did neither. Thanks for the complements all. Did you catch all the references in my Ode to Black Lotus? Next week is part one of my grim long manual.

I will take the responsibility of my post and how it may lack content for what i am about to say. This article touched me more on a personal level than any other SCG article on our format I have ever seen. I have read articles by Steve Menendian since the first one in 2003 and this was nothing but memories for my own gratification. I am grateful for everything you have done with your articles. From the analysis of Meandeck Ichorid to back when I first saw my favorite deck of all time..Meandeck Tendrils. You showed us that Vintage should use the fundamental rules of deck building with examples such as Meandeck Gifts. In my opinion you are the leader of our format with not only play skill but play innovation. If you ever did decide to leave Magic and persue anything else in your life I'd like you to know you have touched many.
I honestly don't know what else to say in this thread. This is an original thing to have a thread about in the Open Forum. There is no new tech to discuss, or how the article helped our format. This more of a personal ode a champion makes to the people that may appreciate him. I truly can not know of how to respond in this forum in a progressive mannor. But I do know that I have always looked forward to things written by Steve Menendian.
Thanks for everything and continue on. I will see you on your next 100th article feature.
Btw, I really liked the Ode to black lotus. Especially the verse about the background in the community forum.

How much time did you put into the Ode? It reads very nicely. Its flow is very fluid and not something you normally get out of a poem that doesn't rhyme or have a pattern of syllables. Great job, not just on the Ode, but on the entire article.

How much time did you put into the Ode?
About 20 minutes. I started with Ode to a Grecian Urn and started rewriting it line by line. I got about 8 lines in and just decided to do my own thing and then conclude with the last paragraph from Keats Ode to a Grecian Urn. Alot of my ode does rhyme though. Thanks for the complements guys. Stephen

Seriously, I don't know where Vintage would be without you; and I hope you continue the good work. I know I always look forward to your next primer/strategy guide.
