Electrolyze:
Card type: Instant

Casting cost: 1RU

Card text: Electrolyze deals 2 damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures and/or players.
Draw a card.

I've been thinking of putting this card in my Slaver deck. Why?

1) Card advantage. When your opponent has two x/1 creatures on the board, this card gives as much card advantage as an Ancestral. And in the worst case, you can shoot two at your opponent and the card replaces itself.

2) This card can kill some of the most troublesome creatures in type 1: Welder, Confidant, Shaman, Lackey, Erayo, Meddling Mage, Cutpurse, Kataki,... .

3) It's an instant with a not-too-expensive manacost.

4) Since it's blue, it pitches to FOW.

I dunno, perhaps it's just me, but I really think that this card has potential. I haven't tested it yet due to time constraints, but I'm considering playing it as a two-off in a tournament this weekend.
Unless you can convince me otherwise of course, I'd like to hear other people's opinion on this matter...

Yup, sorry, i copy/pasted it and it didn't copy the mana symbols :-/.

Why is this better than Fire/Ice or Lava Dart? It generates more CA than both of those cards. When there are two critters on the board, Fire/Ice gives an adantage of +1, Electrolyze gives +2, the equivalent of an Ancstral. And Lava Dart... there are times you can't or can't afford to sac one of your mountains. And Lava Dart doesn't cycle, Electrolyze does.

I tested this card. However, Fire/Ice is just better.

Being three mana instead of two, and being red as well as blue, makes this much worse for cylcig and trying to find a land drop, which comes up a lot.
Also, being double colored mana makes it much harder to cast than Ice.
As for hitting something, if you kill Bob or a Welder, you don't really miss the card of Electrolyze if you cast fire, especially if you use that blue mana that you saved.

In addition to Lord Atog's argument.  I think the fact that it is always blue actually makes it weaker for killing welders.  Because when it comes down to it, any deck running welder is going to run ReB.

Both this and F//I pitch to Force, but Fire is mono-red on the stack, big differance.  Also Ice can randomly give you the edge needed to break a DSC vrs DSC stand-off, or buy you that critical turn against oncomming angels.

So I agree with Lord Atog, If your gunna run this ... try Fire//Ice instead.

I really think it's a common mistake for players to think of pure card advantage in a vacuum. The turn (or two even) difference in having R1 and RU1 can and will be gamebreaking, on top of the other reasons listed above. If pure card advantage was the most important thing in vintage magic then every deck would be playing mind twist, which clearly is not the case. (Although I do play it in my SB )
