This is the rare cycle, a land and an artifact.


Mage's Hide
Land (R)
Accumulate(At the beginning of your upkeep, put a hoard counter on this permanent.).
T, remove X hoard counters from Mage's Hide, sacrifice Mage's Hide: Add X mana of any color to your mana pool.


Chalice of Plenty
{X}
Artifact
Chalice of Plenty comes into play with X hoard counters on it.
{1}: Move a hoard counter from a permanent you control to another permanent you control with Accumulate.


The artifact seems to be dangerous with the white seal, and it's name isn't that serious. The land seems ok to me; I don't know whether it's too good or too bad, actually.

How are these a cycle?

Why is the first one names Hide?

The Chalice looks really dangerous with basically any playable Accumulate card. Maybe it would be better like this:

Chalice of Plenty
{X}
Artifact
Chalice of Plenty comes into play with X hoard counters on it.
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may move any number of hoard counters from Chalice of Plenty onto other permanents.

"Hoard" needs to be lowercase (see Thallid for comparison with spore counters).

"Hoard" is written correctly, I think. It is a cycle, though a small one; the uncommon and common cycles are one-of-every-colour, while this is the two "colours" less common (artifact and non-basic land) so they are rare. I agree that they aren't tied together like the others, so calling them a cycle is really stretching its meaning.

The Chalice you posted doesn't increase the "growth" of hoard counters, so it doesn't do what was originally intended. It is more like the "Recharging Unit" I posted in the original thread ( {1} Artifact Sac This: Put a hoard counter on every permanent with accumulate). I like this idea too, but I think it shouldn't be able to distribute every counter at once, and I would really miss a card that adds some speed to the growth of those cards, because otherwise they might become a bit predictable without some interaction. I would word your proposal the following way:


Chalice of Plenty
{X}
Artifact
Chalice of Plenty comes into play with X hoard counters on it.
{1}: Move a hoard counter from a permanent you control to another permanent you control with Accumulate.

Is this okay? It makes a complete redistribution possible, so it might need a higher cost than {1}.

Obviously I think complete redistribution is fine. But the original growing chalice was like Berserk for accumulate. Very dangerous.

You could do a take off on Spore Flower:


{3}: Put a hoard counter on target permanent.

I like your original suggestion (and my tweak) more, though I think the ability "{3}: Put a hoard counter on target permanent." would be nice on a random creature (some {U} {U} 1/2 guy). It wouldn't be part of the "Accumulate" cycle, but it could be nice to have one (don't know whether that would b too much for a mechanic that should be small on purpose).
