Zoom
U
Sorcery

Text:
Look at the top 4 cards of your opponent's library.  You may put them back in any order   Draw a card.

Explanation:

It's a cantrip Natural Selection, but better.   I wonder how powerful an effect like this would be.  I chose four because 5 seemed like it would be too powerful.  I definately pushed the power level of this card.  I think at instant speed, it would be too good.

Terrible name, the effect is good but probably not too good. It's not obsoleting either Spy Network, Portent, or Index, so I think it's worth thinking about. If you made it 3 cards I would have no reservations at all about this.

I like the card. It seems fair and useful. My only question is, how long would it take you to resolve this?

Yeah, yeah, I get it. Let's not go there, OK? No warning issued, because I'm just gonna assume you forgot the winking smileyface there, but please don't pursue this further, mmmkay?

How about choosing a non-legend creature? Otherwise he is a UG instant Wrath of Frog.

I'm a little wary of the comparison to Impulse.  I know that Impulse puts 4 on the bottom, but this has the same digging power.  1 mana draw spells all seem to be sorceries yes, but they tend to dig through two or three cards now (Sleight of Hand, Serum Visions).  It's probably okay, but it feels a bit on the high side. Also, I think (judging from Spy Network), that the two first sentences should be one, like this:

Look at the top four cards of your library, then put them back in any order.  Draw a card.

FYI Anusien, this lets you look at your opponent's library, not yours.  I imagine that would change your opinions a bit?

Oh, whoops.  Yeah, that changes things.  I agree 100% with Matt, although what I said about the wording still stands (subbing in opoponent's for your).

This looks to be just about on par with Peek. Both let you know what the opponent is playing, and cantrip. This can potentially mess up their draws a bit, while Peek lets you know what is actually in their hand.

Hey, Steve took up my challenge! Awesome. I can't wait 'till I can read the full mailbag article three months from now Razz

Regarding the card: yeah, nice. There's a decent chance this basically gives you a sort of pseudo time walk for two or so turns. This can definitely not be an instant (cantrip on an instant alone should cost at least U), obviously because of power level reasons, but also because you really don't want people doing this stuff during an opponent's turn - it's just too freaky. Five cards is definitely too much; the odds of a two turn land stall are too large. It's like Matt said - at three cards this would be absolutely fine. At four it's probably really good. Not exactly to the point where I think it couldn't be done (as a rare) but rather to the point where I doubt if WotC would print this.

This probably comboes with someting, though Wink

That's true, but it'd make a nice Mindslaver trick. You know, set up your opponent for a good screw-over. Nothings sucks like a one-shot slaver only to find out they don't have shit on hand and draw into mana. It's probably decent in Gro builds, too.

Either way, this card should probably be called 'Prioritize'. And it's begging for cool flavor text, too (though I realize such things do not concern Steve ;-)

"Disclosure" in a legal nod to the originator.

Disclosure seems like the perfect name for this card.

Prioritize is a great card name, but the problem is that it implies control over one's own library, not the opponents.

Disclosure it is.

I was trying to imagine what card "zoom" would look like and this is what I came up with.

Imagine playing this before activating a Mindslaver. You can really set a guy up for a fall that way. And then imagine that your opponent happens to play with this, too, and that you cast it, targeting yourself, in your slaver turn. pwnt.

By the way, I agree that Prioritize implies control over your own library, but I meant to fix that with the flavor text. Something like "Let's get his priorities straight" (only then obviously less lame). But Disclosure is a fine name, too.

So 2 questions remain:

1. Do we all agree with the power level (i.e. 4 cards instead of 3)?
2. Do we need/want flavor text?

The power level can easily be tweaked in Development, and I like Disclosure.
