I like the effect, but I don't think it needs two different equip costs. That's the sort of thing that I think only works well if done in a cycle. In any case, I think that this is more powerful than [card]Mask of Memory[/card], but not so much so that it needs the {4}/{4} cost. It's like a small Yawgmoth's Bargain, in some ways, but it's still dependant on a creature dealing combat damage to an opponent, and, unlike Bargain, can't net you additional cards if the ones you draw don't help you. I think that {3}/{2} would be aggressive, but not terrible. A low-ish equip cost isn't going to break this, since no matter what, it's only ever going to do anything once a turn, anyhow.

Originally I had the only equip cost at 1B, but as a designer and a player I tend not to like artifacts with only colored activation costs, so I slapped the alternate cost on there.  I could move to 3/2, because that makes sense.

What if instead of 2 equip costs you make an attach cost on there so this thing can move at instant speed. The card would be better so the attach cost would need to be like BBB or (2)BB. This way the card can be used by any color but rewards players for playing it in a black deck... Kinda like cranial plating

This card seems excessively strong. Even if it's just attached to a 2/2, it's significantly better than Mask of Memory. On anything larger, one hit becomes effectively lethal, especially in limited. 3/2 just seems way too cheap.

Hrrm -- I think I fell into the trap of "Well, at {3}/{2}, it isn't as powerful as Yawgmoth's Bargain..." which, of course, doesn't mean at all that it isn't broken anyhow -- and also into the trap of "Who plays with creatures in competitive formats?" You guys are a bad influence. I suppose, then, that {3}/{4} or {4}/{3} would be fair.

Another CCF orphan.  Updated to 4/3, which is more expensive than Loxodon Warhammer, and probably costed appropriately.  Looking at some of the equipment, Wizards is very cautious with (most of) the costs.

I think that the new cost/equip is fair.  4/3 is the same as Sword of the Paruns, and this is at least as good as that.  Also worth noting that it's 1 and 1 higher than Sword of Fire and Ice, which I think sounds about right.
