Trip to New York
«

So me and my girlfriend are taking a vacation in New York City after I finish final exams for the summer term. It will only be for four days, but she wants me to have an opportunity to see the city and know what life there is like. Aside from the obvious tourist sights like the Statute of Liberty, Empire State Building, Guggenheim, etc., I was hoping to get some suggestions from people familiar with the area about what we should devote some time to seeing. Thanks.

I'm not from the area, but I was there a few weeks back and I've been to NYC half a dozen times in the last few years.
IMO, the number one place to visit is the metropolitan museum of art. Period. I can't get enough of that place.

I knew this sounded familiar!
You can get some more advice here:

...Dammit. Verbal warning to myself for failure to use the search function.
I guess the distinction between that thread and this one is that I plan for my trip to far more culturally-oriented and far less Magic-oriented. I think I'm pretty well covered when it comes to basic amenities like restaurants, stores, cafes, etc. Jenn went to NYU for undergrad so she knows the day to day stuff in the city pretty well. She just sort of lost sight of the tourist attractions while living in the city, in a similar fashion to how someone living in Boston might.
So if anyone can suggest anything else not included in that thread, I'd be most appreciative.

Ooh, one thing that doesn't seem to be mentioned there is that you can get really really cheap tickets if you're willing to take whatever is available at the last minute (ticketmaster, etc). There's no guarantee that you'll get to see an awesome broadway show, but the possibility is definitely there.

I think an absolute must is a stroll through central park. Eat in central park if possible. Central park is gorgeous and enormous. It is so big its subdivided into sections (such as reading and sunbathing versus recreational activities). It even has a zoo within it.
Spend at least a few hours wandering around central park - you won't regret it.
I think MOMA is also a worthwhile museum. I wouldn't recommend any mainstream broadway shows at this point - they all suck since Les Miserables left broadway.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned anything about this or even if in late summer it still is open and they still are playing. But if you are going for culture (as we did when we were there as i only searched for magic for one day to fail miserably) try and get a ticket to the shakespeare theater in central park. It will cost ye some time to get the ticket but it is worth it and the ticket is free.
Otherwise i wish you a good trip.
