Location- Cary, NC at the Sports Zone: Saturday, September 9th, 2006
We had 15 people show up for this tournament. Thanks to everyone who came from out of state to make this happen. Without you guys these things wouldn't be possible. We did 4 rounds of swiss and $20 per person to play for a Mox Jet. We got 5 people less than last time, but the store owner decided to have the tournament 2 weeks after the last one, which explains why that happended. The players talked to the owner and from now on there will be at least one month in between tourneys. The next one should be in 5 weeks for a mox, and I will post as soon as I know anything.
  The metagame break down was:
  1x U/W/b Fish 1x U/W fish 1x Sullivan Solution 1x Hide/Seek Control (Cullen Control) 1x Worse than Fish 1x Oath 1x Izzet Combo/Control (Xerox) 1x R/G Hate 1x Drain Tendrils 1x Grim Long 1X Machinus Gifts 1x Mono-U Stax 1x a Type 2 Green/Blue Deck 1x Stroke/Geyser Combo 1x Ichorid
There was a cut to a top 8, which was as follows:
I don't know standings but David Early was #1 after swiss.
EJ Walsh (Grim Long) concedes to Cody Vinci (Drain Tendrils) Wadie Shahin (U/W Fish) defeats David Early (U/W/b Fish) Chris Coppola (Gifts) defeats Ryan Quick (Mono-U Stax) Cullen Cox (Hide/Seek Control) defeats Steven Goanos (Oath)
  Top 4:
Wadie Shahin (U/W Fish) Chris Coppola (Gifts) Cullen Cox (Hide/Seek Control) Cody Vinci (Drain Tendrils)
As usual, a top 4 split followed....
Chris Coppola ended up getting the Mox Jet, giving an English Mana Drain to Cody, cash to Wadie and cards to Cullen.

Hope to see everyone at the next tourney! I took a bunch of pics with my digital camera and sent them to Machinus. He should be putting them up momentarily.
Most Insane Play of The Day:
Top 8. Fish Mirror. Game 3. Wadie attacks with a Meddling Mage. David attempts to STP the Mage. Wadie responds with an ancestral recall targetting himself (he only has 1 land, and island, and his hand needs a lot of help). David FOWs. Wadie misdirects the FOW to the STP. SIIIIICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was a really good match to watch as well. It took at least an hour and a half of pure fishy entertainment.

Fish smashing Machinus Gifts. This is what happens with proxied combo decks. Cullen beating down on the fishies. Colossus, moments before death. Tormod's crypt keeping that juicy graveyard in check. Here I am digging for mana. I couldn't stop the Smokestack. The effects of Jitte in the Fish miror are severe. Wadie is happy to see David go to one off Bob. Three bearded men and a young boy.

I guess the 4 Dark Ritual in the Hide/Seek Control deck are mistyped... --> Dark Confidant?

He wrote dark ritual on his decklist. I was thinking maybe he wrote it down wrong? I'll be sure to find out.
Edit: haha... based on the pictures I'm almost positive he wrote it down wrong. I'll be sure to update that.

Yeah, the missing picture from the fish mirror is the next Confidant pull, which was Voidmage Prodigy.  I was at 1 and if I pull a land off the top, I swing for lethal damage and win the match (unless Wadie had some trick I didn't know about, although I think he was tapped out).  I think someone else may have gotten a picture of the pull.  In any case, that last match was brutal and I congratulate Wadie on the win.  I noticed there was a lot of dicussion about the match, especially game 2.  Were there some things that could/should have happened that I'm not aware of?
Good call on making it a month til the next one by the way.  I'll see you guys then.
Oh, I also gather that Chris Coppola = Machinus.  Is this the case?

I wrote Dark Ritual? Yeah that definitely should be Dark Confidants. Lack of sleep is a terrible thing.
The event itself was once again really fun. I had a great time. Props to George and his sons for making the trek from Savannah for it as well as EJ for taking time off work to play as well.
  Great pics!

I sent the pic of the Voidmage rip to Machinus. Post it Chris!!
Here is what we were discussing in game 2 of top 8 fishy mirror:
Wadie had a Jitte on Mage with 2 counters on it. You had some land and only one was untapped: a factory. You also had a meddling mage and a 1/1 dude. Wadie DIDN'T attack. That was the turning point in game 2 that swing it in your favor, even though you ultimately lost to Bob. From what everyone could tell, Wadie had the game wrapped up if he attacked.
We we're also talking about why you were playing factory tricks with crucible when you had a wasteland in yard and Wadie had 4 tundras as lands.

I thought too many fish pics would be redundant. Also, it's not a very good picture. But here it is anyway:

I didn't have any tricks up my sleeve - I was just a bit fried at that point, and I was bit dejected that after all that work from both of us, the result of the second game, and potentially the match, would depend on something totally out of our control.
I'm sure there were mistakes on both sides, but this was probably one of the most demanding and fun magic games I've had in a long, long time. I still think my best play of the day was naming Crucible in game 3 on that mage.
Overall, the tournament was a lot of fun, and we'll hopefully do it again. By the way, misdirection is > daze. That is all.

These top4s are beginning to be redundant    . Once again I wish I could have been there. Three bearded men and a young boy. Love it!!    So that makes 3 Drains for Cody then?
