It's pretty hard to break a wall.

I thought of good walls... I came up with wall of blossoms.  A good card, certainly, but not broken.  The ability is definitely clutch though, so let's give it a bit more of a twirl:

Original build
Walls of the Library
G
Defender
When Walls of the Library comes into play, draw a card
When Walls of the Library is put into a graveyard from play, return it to its owner's hand

Current card:
Walls of the Library
1G
Defender (obviously)
When Walls of the Library comes into play, draw a card
When Walls of the Library is put into a graveyard from play by lethal damage, you may discard a card.  If you do, return it to its owners hand
0/1
Even the walls of the Sylvan Library absorb its knowledge

This + Phyrexian Altar = draw your deck.  On turn 2.  In Extended.  I'm going to say it needs to be reworked.

This would be basically fine if you cut either of the abilities.

Well, it's supposed to be broken

How about: "When this is put into your graveyard from play, you may pay 1.  If you do, return it to your hand at end of turn"

How about you only return when it dies to combat damage?

It's a similar concept to Sprouting Phytohydra, only I think a much better one.  I like your fix a lot, Matt.

I like it better too.  I'lll edit the initial post once I'm on a computer that shows buttons (having to tab over to the reply button is tough enough... I have no idea where the edit button is even located!  )

Current version is insanely good. It basically reads "Upkeep G - Target creature deals no damage this turn. Draw a card".
This would kill Aggro in Standard Smile

For this effect, you would probably have to cost it 3G or 4G to make it balanced. And then it would be crap. Making a good recursive creature that has "Draw a card" on it is almost impossible to do, because it is either too good, or terrible for Constructed play (see Haru-Onna, much weaker than this one and yet at 3G).

You're very right... I wasn't even thinking about the Wall of Blossoms ability.  I was just thinking about a 0/1 Defender for 1 with built-in Enduring Renewal.  That's the card I thought was cool.  Yes, cantripping every time you bring it back is ridiculously strong.

How about the current wording?  It's not card advantage anymore, and takes up two mana, so it sucks up more mana early game

Check out the CCF Forum Rules.  We want to see the original wording to make sure all the early conversations make sense, and your current wording in bold.

I'm still too skeptical about the current build, since it gives Green card filtering, which I'm rather uncomfortable with.  How about returning it to play if you pay some mana (like OfficeShredder and Matt's suggestions) and only draw a card if it came into play from hand.

You might consider adding Dredge (3?) instead of the current return-to-hand ability.  It's a little bit simpler, and could have fun combo possibilities.
