[Announcement] ELD's Mox Tournament II January 27th Bridgewater, MA

I am pleased to announce the date for my second Mox Tournament.  We have a great player base to build off, with the last event featuring some of the biggest names in Type 1.  Ray Robillard, Brassman, Dave Feinstein and many of the top New England Vintage players made for one of the best fields I had ever seen.  I hope to see everyone who made my first event a success show up with a car load of friends.   

The first place prize will be a Mox Ruby.

Pre-registration puts you in a drawing for a free Taiga.  You can do this by sending me a PM or an e-mail at EricELD@comcast.net. 

Prizes for 30 people
1st Place - UL Mox Ruby shown above
2nd Place – Choice of Signed Black Bordered French Underground Sea or Foil Asian City of Brass (7th)
3rd Place – Whatever 2nd doesn't pick. 
4th Place – Foil Gemstone Mine (TS)
5th-8th   - Choice from type one goodness such as Foil Rack and Ruins, Asian Foil Chain of vapor, Foil Rebuild, Foil Fact or Fiction and many more. 

I am going to give away the Mox Ruby regardless of attendance.  Other places will be adjusted down if there are less than 30 players.  Prizes will be adjusted up if we have more than 30.  100% of the entry fees will be put towards the prizes.  That's what to expect out of all of my tournaments. 

A Limited Edition hand-made Mox Ruby Proxy will be given to every participant.  These proxies will not count towards your proxy count for all my future events.  I will only be making 45 of these.  If we get over 45 people, I have Ancestral Recalls from the first event.  People who Pre-Register will be guaranteed a Mox Ruby Proxy. 

Cost
$20 for up to 10 proxies.  Additional proxies at $1 each. The Proxy Ancestral Recalls from my first event do not count towards your proxy count. 

Registration will begin at 11:00.(Was 10:30 in original post)  The tournament will begin promptly at 12 pm.
Swiss rounds based on attendance.  Cut to top 8.

10 Proxies with up to 5 additional proxies at $1 each (up to 15 total proxies)

Proxies must contain all oracle text including the full name of the card.  For those of you who are familiar with SCG tournaments, I will be following thier policy.  If you have any questions regarding proxies, be sure to ask before the start of the tournament.

I have been playing Monday nights at Scholar's for years.  The location is close to both 495 and 24.  The ease of getting there has made for some great crowds over the years.  I have always considered it my most valuable testing ground for larger tournaments.  The attendance has started to drop off for their weekly tournaments, so this is a great way to show a new group of people what Scholar's has to offer. 
Also -
Pizza will be available by the slice, as well as snacks and soda.
Side Drafts will take be available all day with discounted draft sets.
I will have singles for trade/sale
I will be buying cards.
      Commons/Uncommons/Lands mixed (at least 10% uncommon) @ $5 per 1000
      Bulk rares @ $0.10 each
      Bulk Foils @ $0.05 each
      Bulk Foil Rares @ $0.25 each

This should make the proxies usable everywhere proxies are allowed.  The text will be the last step, so I will have the first totally complete proxy on 1/22/07.

I am currently accepting reservations for specific numbered proxies.  Several people have expressed interest in trying to get an entire set that have the same number.  When you pre-register if you want a certain number please tell me.  The people who attended the first event will have priority for numbers if two people both want the same number.

I finished the art for all 45 proxies today.  This is one of my favorites.  I did my best to personalize the backgrounds for people who Pre-Registered.  This one is for Dan of Myriad Games.  On the left is the Myriad Logo, and on the right I put the initials D Y in Runes.  I am still trying to get a typewriter so I can add the text w/o using my suboptimal hand writing. If I can't get one in the next couple days, I'll either buy one from Staples or write it by hand.  They're over $100 new, so I'm trying all possible avenues before I consider forking over that kind of money for such ancient tech.  They will definitely be done for Saturday no matter how I need to do it.  I'll get a finished pic up as soon as they're all done.  Two people will be helping me with the event, so I'll be able to deal with buying and selling cards more easily.  I'd like to stress the pre-registration.  There's a Taiga up for grabs and it will help a great deal with setting up the venue.

Is there an attendance cap on this?  The last time I traveled to EMass for a tourney (Brockton), some friends couldn't play (after driving an hour) due to constraints.

That being said, I'm looking forward to this; hopefully you get a good showing!

I actually coughed up $115 for a type writer to make the proxies look better.  The typing is all set, so I've just got the {t} and {r} symbols to add and they're done.  I'll be carving a stamp tomorrow for those.  I'm really happy with how the proxies came out.  They certainly are a lot of work, but the positive feedback makes it worth it. 

@ everyone:  Remember, I'll be buying cards all day.  Bring out those useless boxes of commons/uncommons and all your unwanted cards.  I'll be happy to give you cash or cards.  I'll have a few display cases of trades this time.  I have some excellent collector's items, as well as tournament staples.

It should be noted that the Gifts list w/o Drains made it to the finals after winning a Gifts Mirror.  Duress was a very interesting card with the maximum amount of 8 making the top 2.  Gifts and Storm combo were the best performing deck types, with 2/3rd of the players pioleting each making top 8.
