Every single attempt at making a deck results in losing nearly every game I play in that format. Either I find myself getting owned by counterspells, land destruction, burn or creatures. Nothing I build can handle more than 2 of those, and the current crop of net decks are boring, which is why I usually prefer trying to build something new.

How the damned h--- do you build a deck in this format ? Sad

This is a phenomenon of the "all tier 2" initiative R&D has been on for the last couple of years.  The idea has been to print no Psychatogs and no Goblin Piledrivers, but rather lots of Watchwolves and Teferis.  The result is that LD, permission, aggro, combo, burn, etc. are all viable strategies right now (albeit on different levels of quality).  This creates an incredibly volatile and unpredictable metagame.  If you want to do well, it is much more important to build a deck with a lot of resistance to opposing strategies than it is to build one with a strong game plan.  The best cards are Wrath of God, Gigadrowse, and Stinkweed Imp, not things like Dragonstorm or Groundbreaker.  If you'll look at the netdecks, they are characterized by having a lot of different plans available to them.  It is easy for them to switch from one strategy to another, and inevitability is king.  The permission deck has Dralnu.  The Dredge deck has Akroma.  Pickles can do all sorts of strange tricks, but eventually it's going to get Vesuvan Shapeshifter/Brine Elemental lock going.  The motto of the current standard is "Threat Diversity!"
