So I've been fooling around w/Dredge based around Dread Return and have had quite a bit of success. I've mostly been playing against Solar Flare, MGA, and Slivers. The decks I've see so far have all been B/G and run creatures other than Akroma. I think this is wrong for three reasons...1. Head to head nothing tops Akroma, and I mean nothing. I've checked.
2. My deck runs 12 differrent cards that allow me to discard while drawing into new stuff...3. If the deck is working the way I want it to then Extirpate is a non-issue unless they manage to nab Dread Return early.

Black:4
4 Dread Return

Blue:16
4 Magus of the Bazaar
4 Careful Consideration
4 Compulsive Research
4 Remand

Green:16
4 Golgari Grave Troll
4 Wall of Roots
4 Scryb Ranger
4 Birds of Paradise

White:4
4 Akroma

Land:20
4 Gemstone Caverns
4 Gemstone Mine
4 Breeding Pool
4 Watery Grave
4 Overgrown Tomb

The Caverns may seem a bit redundant as well but they follow the same line of thought as Akroma. If things work the way they have on multiple occasions then turn 0 caverns leads into turn 2 Akroma. If they don't have condemn then it's all over but the crying. A sideboard is in the works but it will definitely have Extirpate. Aside from that I haven't thought about it too much. Anyway I'd love to get some feedback and hear from anyone else that's running anything similar.
I'll post a sideboard when I figure one out. Thanks for reading...

Isn't there currently a BG Dredge deck in T2 that's decent?  I think it uses LftL to do dumb things with Ghost Quarter and Svogthos.  Perhaps a place to look for some more ideas.

I too have been playing a Dredge deck in t2, with 12 discard/draw/tutor effects to work with, plus about 12+ dredge cards. My creature base is a little different though. I have no idea who you saw not running Akroma, but whatever. Running 4 is a mistake though. I run 2, along with 2 Hellkites, and an Angel of Despair for utility, I have more targets in the side too, like Blazing Archon and Firemane Angel.

The big problem with your deck is that you will never get cards in your grave. They can just kill your draw/discard mechanics and look at you attack with a ranger all day. Dredge is insane in this deck, whether you agree or not.

I take it you don't play Type 2 alot, so I'm gong to tell you to check around for the b/g version, which is insanely better.

That's actually why I run compulsive research and Careful Consideration. They allow me to reanimate Akroma without worrying about anyone killing my Magus. I never have any problem getting creatures in the graveyard. Would you post your list? I've seen the one in the Star City forums and it's good but suffers from the very problem you claim that mine does. As far as Hellkite and Angel are concerned their both really good to but neither one of them will save you from AKroma.

If you are worried about an opposing Akroma, play some kind of bounce.
