Flowstone Tumor
BR
Enchantment -- Aura

Enchant creature
{T}: Enchanted creature gets +2/-2 until end of turn.
{T}: Enchanted creature gains fear until end of turn.

***

Current Wording:

Flowstone Tumor
BR
Enchantment -- Aura

Enchant creature
Enchanted creature has fear.
{T}: Put a stone counter on Flowstone Tumor.  Enchanted creature gets +X/-X until end of turn, where X is the number of stone counters on Flowstone Tumor.

***

The motivation behind this card is pretty simple.  I wanted to create a loathsome, [partly] black creature enchantment.  Think about what kind of artwork might accompany a card that would reflect both the abilities and the name.  When you hit upon something that makes you think, "Oh, God, that's horrible," then you'll have in mind the kind of card I'm trying to make here.  Like many of my recent creations, this card is more an exercise in flavour than in raw power.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

I think this would be better if it gave fear as a static ability.  As it is, I imagine it wouldn't be used too much.  I love the versatility of the card, though, even though the power level is relatively low - it's removal, pump, and evasion all in one.

What if it cost to give Fear (or gave Fear as a static ability)?  Or gave +2/-2 (or +1/-1) as a cost and fear as a tap ability?  You could even do something like:
{T}: Put a -1/-1 counter on enchanted creature.  Enchanted creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn.  Something to make it seem less like a direct rip-off the Flowstone Embrace.

Boy is my face red...  I must've seen that card and forgotten about it and then mimicked it unconsciously.  Maybe I ought to just make both abilities static.  If either one is static and the other is activated, the other may as well just be static as well.

Actually, I really like my idea, with the -1/-1 counters and the +2/+2 temporary boost.  Sure, the Tumor or whatever is slowly eating away at you, but BOY does it make you strong in the meanwhile (Bane from Batman anyone?).  It would probably need to be a mana ability instead of a tap ability.

Also, not that the Flowstone Embrace is basically [card]Immolation[/card] to begin with.

A creature that other creatures are scared of because it has rock-based tumors growing on it?  That's totally repulsive.  I love it!

I love the new version.  It might make a little more flavor sense for it to automatically gain a counter every turn, though.  (Not to mention the stigma against tapping enchantments.)

I intentionally chose to have the counter increment only when you use the ability.  It's a decidedly black aspect of the enchantment.  You have this power that is tempting to use, but which kills you when you use it.  If the counter incremented every turn, the flavour would be about inevitability instead of temptation.  The flavour of the card now actually makes you wonder whether some victims of this cancer got infected intentionally.

I like it.  Some great potential for flavortext.  Something like:
"Anything can be harmful in large amounts.  Especially injecting pure flowstone into your veins."
-or-
"The flowstone made Kartul sick, but it also made him strong."

You get the idea.  Anyway, I think it feels like a great use of a multicolored card; something that is both black and red, but it's not "Black ability + red ability".

The first version with the -1/-1 counters is a one turn +1/+1 & Fear.

You have a Watchwolf, put this on it and make it a 4/4 (3/3 & +2/+2 with a -1/-1 counter is a 4/4) with Fear for 1 turn. The next turn the second counter nullifies the +2/+2 boost and so on. The only benefit for your own creatures after 1 turn is Fear.

The Stone counter +X/-X is much better as it can still be used as removal and a boost that doesn’t kill you straight off.

What I like best about it is that the ability turns off if you untap the enchantment with the current wording so you get to keep the basic stats of the creature if you don’t want to use the ability. Nice.

Flavor text:
“The flowstone’s intertwined auras of sweetness and decay made ~someone~ exalt and retch exponentially with each use.”

How is this for flavour text:

"We have devised an ointment that halts the spread of the infection, but those loathsome barbarians refuse to use it."
