I just stumbled upon this and it looks like I won't be seeing any sunlight when this thing comes out.

StarCraft II

I am pumped!

I knew it was coming when Blizzard said they were unvieling something big at that Korean blizzard event.  I figured it was either Starcraft II or a Starcraft MMO.  The former was much more likely.  But I am very pumped.  The announcement has gotten me playing on battle.net again, to get myself ready.  Though I heard they were closing battle.net in lieu of their next server.  Anyone know if we'll be able to play Starcraft and Brood War on it and/or if we'll have to pay to use it?

I can hardly wait, although I will be honest when I say that I am terrified it will not live up to Starcraft's legacy.

When has Blizzard failed to deliver (except that Ghost game). I think straight up sequels is something they do pretty well.

I'll be playing this whenever I can. I'm pretty sure Roxas will be as well. Of course, I'm not going to go into Zombie-mode like most WoWers did, but it'll be pretty close.

I hope they release the reqs for it before I end up buying my new computer though.

I don't know how good Blizzard has been about meeting release dates, and it seems like someone else is pulling a Blizzard.  That said, I think it will be double digits before we see the game.

Sounds like November 2008.

That's around my estimate--late next year.  I'm probably going to have to get a new graphics card for it, though...

Can't wait for it - Although i've not been satisfied with the last few games blizzard made....I mean, wow is really boring IMHO, and Warcraft 3 isn't alll that great either (although i really enjoy Tower Defense and Tower Wars).

Starcraft did indeed pwn though  Very Happy
And was hooked on diablo for way too long.

Does this give me an execuss to necro this thread in like 1.5 years?

I got a feeling that Blizzard is going to hit the hammer on the nail with this game.

I cannot wait.

WoW ended up being tremendously boring when I stepped back and saw what I'd been wasting my time with in '05.

Warcraft 3 was amusing and fun, it was about what I expected from a Warcraft title.  From Starcraft though, I expect more brooding, evil, and general creepiness.  One of the things I liked most about Starcraft is that the major races were all inherently evil.  The Confederacy, Arcturus Mengsk, the UED, the Conclave, the Overmind, Kerrigan, and of course Duran were all friggen evil, and the only genuine good guys alive when we leave the storyline are Jim Raynor and Zeratul.  This makes the missions that would otherwise be a bit boring far more interesting (okay, the last mission of Warcraft 3 when you get all three races is cute, but the last mission of Brood War where you get to pummel the other races?  Much more interesting.) as well as makes it much easier to get pumped when the good guys actually DO roll in.  A perfect example of this is the Brood War mission "True Colors" in which Kerrigan betrays Arcturus and Fenix at the same time.  I was extremely excited to be killing Fenix and Duke, but I found myself actually distressed when Fenix died.  And then I got goosebumps when Jim Raynor swears revenge.  This wouldn't happen if these sorts of characters were common as they are in Warcraft.

Personally, I don't care about the graphics, I don't care about the units, I don't care about new playable races, and I certainly don't care about online playability.

I want to know when Jim Raynor claims his revenge, damn it.

He's like the Punisher, if the Punisher had testicles three feet wide that could crush cars.

Magic announces it's next set is coming out in 2008...make that 2018.

I don't think I'll have a computer capable of playing this game for a long while.  Of course, I'm pretty sure I'm rooting for the underdog again.  Back when Total Annihilation was pitted against the original StarCraft, I stood behind TA.  Now we have Supreme Commander, which is being touted as the spiritual successor to Total Annihilation.  Of course, I don't have a computer capable of playing that either, but I can tell you that SupCom excites me a lot more than SC2.

I'm not trying to start an argument, in any case.  I know that my backing of TA is occasionally irrational.  I can't get over how cool it is, though, to have parabolic projectile trajectories in a realtime strategy game.  I am as impressed as anybody is over the amazing balance that SC maintains among its three radically different factions.  I have often dreamed of finding the "perfect" unit pruning (since in TA you can permit and ban whichever units you like) to make the Arm and the Core different enough to matter.  It is my understanding, however, that Supreme Commander has taken a lesson from StarCraft; each of the three factions in SupCom supposedly has a distinct play style.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

I'll deffinetly make sure that I do!  Very Happy

I find most newer Strategy games to be really easy, like total commander and C&C3 - Along with games such as heroes of might and magic 4 (Haven't tried the 5th one yet)

Starcraft absolutely rocked in multiplayer, with all three races being cool enough to warrant playing Wink

It's almost definite that you'll need GPU Pixel Shading 2.0, so I don't have a computer that runs this.  That said, by the time the damn game comes out, my sunglasses will have a powerful enough computer to run this.

This is all DX9, and it's been in development for four years already. Blizzard is definitely going to configure the game to run on as many systems as possible.
