Blurb: With the recent upheaval to the Vintage format, and the restricting and unrestricting of key cards, the Vintage metagame is in constant flux. Today's So Many Insane Plays sees Stephen pitch two of the prospective powerhouses — Fish and GroAtog — against each other in a titanic match. By leading us through the thought processes in the early game, we can see that the decisions made on turns 1 and 2 are vital to achieving success. If you're looking for that Vintage edge, Stephen — as always — has the answers!

Note:  Craig put up the wrong article tonight.   This was supposed to be the article for next week.   Next week I'll have him put up the article that was supposed to go live tonight.  It's not a big deal, just an FYI.

I'll answer any questions in the SCG forums (SCG new rules).   Feel free to comment here, however.   I'll still read whatever you have to say.

Enjoy!

Stephen

Hi, great article, just have a question about it. I don't think this is possible, this is game 1: After gush & null rod. GAT is mana tide:

Turn 5:

Fish's upkeep: use Grunt on my Echoing Truth and Jotun Grunt.

Drawing Mox Jet. Dead draw.

Attack with Grunt. GAT goes to 12 life.

Wasteland the Tropical Island.

Pass.

GAT draws Brainstorm.

GAT plays Trop #2 and casts another Dryad. Attack with Dryad, sending Fish to 11.

Your one mana short.

Good article, though I think the GAT/Fish matchup is a bit loaded (who honestly expected Fish to win?).
