27 of New England's best battled it out for not one, but two pieces of power.  With a Mox Jet for 1st, and a Timetwister for 2nd, all the players were hoping to make the finals.  In the end, the two players left fighting it out were no strangers to championship gold.  Rich Shay bested Steven Houdlette in a GAT mirror to take home the title and the Waterbury Bye.

You can find the tournament announcement here.

Everyone who attended received a Mox Jet proxy, which will not count as a proxy at ELD events, or Myriad events.

These are my way of saying thank you to everyone who supports the New England Vintage scene.  It is the constant support of the players that allows the community to continue to grow.  You can view pictures from the tournament here.

The final standings showed a varied metagame.  With 6 distinct decks in the Top 8, there seems to be no shortage of options for making the cut.  Once there though, GAT found a way to win, even against decks that have been built to defeat the reemerging power-house.  In the end, GAT out preformed all the other archtypes, if with a little bit of good fortune.  Rich Shay managed to give his opponent only a single turn in game 3 on his way to the finals.  With the $25 entry fee, the prize support was very rich, despite a slightly below average turn out.

The Final Standings (with prizes)
1 Rich Shay - GAT (Split Mox Jet and Timetwister with Stephen)
2 Stephen Houdlette - GAT (Split Mox Jet and Timetwister with Rich)
3 Jason Bourque - Ichorid (Mint Mana Crypt)

5 Justin Bransfield - Gush Tendrils (choice from Type 1 goodness)

Sounds like a great tournament (though it seems a bit small for such a prize-support). And I do like the T8. And the top 2, obv...

Congrats to Rich and Stephen! Sweet to see my take on GAT works as well for you guys as it did for me Very Happy. Opt + Drain for the win! (I presume you followed the "control if in doubt" play-style I also use?)
I'd be incredibly interested to see a tournament report from you guys. In hopes that these actually will be written I'll hold questions on the performance of special cards/choices back for the moment.

random other questions concerning the metagame breakdown: What is Bomberless Bomberman? And how do you play Gifts with a single Gifts?

PS: Those proxies look sweet man!

random other questions concerning the metagame breakdown: What is Bomberless Bomberman?

It is a Trinket Mage, Dark Confidant fish style deck, that has a Dark Ritual/Tendrils package as well.  It basically replaces the Salvagers with traditional brokeness.  Tutors, mana acceleration, and Will/Tendrils with the back up plan of the 2 power beaters.  The deck is very interesting.  It has 4x Scroll, with a pitch counter suite as well as Duress.  Trinket Mage often finds Lotus, so your Will consistently has both Ancestral and Lotus.  It has similarities to early SSB that would always fetch Lotus off Gifts, then use Welder to recur it.

And how do you play Gifts with a single Gifts?

Replacing the other copies with Skeletal Scrying, Fact or Fiction and Fire/Ice.  The result is a weakened deck, but it still has game vs most of the field.

Thank you, they are a ton of work.  I will be doing Time Walk next, which should be a fun challenge.

ELD ran a smooth and very fun event. The ELD proxies also look excellent.

Mon, your posting here on TMD was a factor in my doing well. Much props. I plan to write a detailed report.

Yep, ELD pretty much covered it.  Incase you are curious what the list looks like:
4 Duress
4 Force of Will
2 Misdirection
4 Brainstorm
4 Merchant Scroll
4 Dark Confidant
3 Trinket Mage
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vamp Tutor
1 Mystical
1 Imperial Seal
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
2 Repeal
1 Yawg Will
3 Dark Ritual
1 Tendrils of Agony
1 Tormod's Crypt
5 Moxen
1 Lotus
1 Petal
1 Mana Crypt
4 Delta
2 Strand
4 Sea
1 Island
1 Swamp
1 Library

Sideboard:
1x Tormod’s Crypt
4x Jailer
3x Energy Flux
4x Old Man
1x Hurkyl's
2x Trickbind

I also ended up playing this at Myriad the next day with the change of:
- 1 Imperial seal
- 1 Mana Crypt
+1 Echoing Truth
+1 Engineered Explosives

Charles Scourbys sent me an idea for the list and we ended up building this.  It seemed really solid at ELD's tournament and only started losing matches due to horredous confidant flips, and mislplays...however it wasn't as good in the Myriad meta.  Who knows, I plan on working on the list a little more to see if it can be improved, so you may see the list in the future.

ELD,

This was a great event, I had a lot of fun despite spending most of my time at the high-numbered tables. You can definitely count me in for your next tournament.

I had just thrown together a very rough GAT list the night before and wasn't expecting to do well - but as a learning experience and a warm-up for Waterbury, it was well worth it.

Also, lots of pictures = awesome.

Wow, awesome showing! I guess Opt is for real Wink

@ELD: Thanks for the prompt response!
@Marek: Thanks for the list, the deck looks really interesting. Do you think a single Gush (awesome to Scroll for on random occasions and during the combo-turn) might be usefull? Or maybe a few Mind Twist so that you have something broken to do early with the Rituals?

@Rich: Thanks for the props and congrats again. Happy to have been of service Wink. I'm looking forward to your report. So did you actually win Myriad, too? And again with GAT?

@Mon, Goblin Chief:  The singleton gush may be something to consider, however I'm not too much of a fan of the mindtwist.  With so much misdirection going around in our metagame, I wouldn't like to be hit by my own twist.  I also don't like the fact that it cant be pitched to FoW or Misdirection.  I'll definitely test out the gush idea though.  Thanks for your input  Very Happy
