Vintage tournaments are still uncommon here in Japan, so I decided to organise my own tournament in order to push the Legacy players to get interested in the oldest format of Magic. The first edition of Vintage from Tokyo was held this Sunday in Ikebukuro, and gathered 24 people, which is a pretty good number actually. I decided to make an Proxy allowed tournament, with no limitation, neither on the number of proxies nor on the way to make them: Cheaters don't exist in the Japanese Eternal population  Very Happy. Prizes were: Pernicious Deed DCI FOIL + Boosters, Wheel of Fortune RV + Boosters, boosters and Foils and rare stuff for third and fourth. I participated to my own tournament (pretty tough!) playing my Mono-Red Version of Belcher (<a href="http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=32803.0" target="_blank">see the 1-land Belcher thread</a>). 5 rounds:

Quick games, quick report  Smile

 {1}  Long.deck
G1: I start, Belcher turn 1 Kill.
G2: He doesn't draw land, I break him a mox with shattering Spree, and cast EtW x6 ftw.
1-0-0

 {2}  Eternal Oath
One of the best japanese player with a made-in-Japan deck.
G1: Belcher turn 1 Kill.
G2: I cast Belcher, but miss 2 manas to activate it. He Echoing truths it eot, and comboes off at his turn (infinite turns), I scoop.
G3: EtW x 10 ftw.
2-0-0

 {3}  Bomberman
G1: EtW x 10 ftw.
G2: I cast Belcher turn 1, activation turn 2 ftw.
3-0-0

 {4}  5c Stax
G1: I mull to 7 2 times with Serum Powder, and keep my third hand to play EtW x 12 ftw.
G2: I mull to 4 or 5, he casts SoR at his turn. I manage to break it with SSpree and play 12 Goblins, but he has Vampiric Tutor in hand and EExplosives in library.
G3: I mull to 4, he plays SoR and 3sphere...
3-1-0

 {5}  FCG
G1: Belcher turn 1 kill.
G2: He starts with Food Chain. I cast EtW x 10 at my turn but he comboes off his next turn.
G3: I play WoF to cast Belcher ftw turn 1.

Final standings, 4-1-0, I finish 2nd and go back home with my own prizes  Razz.

I would love to attend one of these events. Any chance you'd be able to put up a Mox or something good for 1st prize in the future?

Vintage: Conquering a country near you!

It's sweet whenever a player takes the initiative and wants to run a magic tournament for the sake of having a magic tournament.  You sir are amazing.

You are welcome any time  Very Happy
Regarding the prizes, my first goal is to attract people from the other formats. A lot of japanese players has still a wrong view of Type 1, so I think they first have to experience the format without any pressure, that's why I decided to make proxy-tournament, with no limitation on the number neither on the way to make them. Actually, I think the maximum players number I could gather, whatever the prizes could be, is 30. If I want to put up a Mox, I first have to buy it from the shop which lends me the room, that means more expensive than the eBay prices. The participation fees are 500 yens (4 dollars), if I want to buy a Mox, I must gather 40 people with 1000 yens fees, or 20 people with 2000 yens... I will make an inquiery among the participants to ask wich way they prefer (cheap fees for cheap prizes, or the opposite), but I think it may be too early to increase the fees right now. Unless players from all over the World come and participate to the next editions!  Very Happy By the way, what should I do to be able to annonce tournaments on TMD?

I went ahead and just promoted you to Tournament Organizer. Anyone else who needs TO status should request it Here.
