Do any of you listen to music on an i-pod or something similar while playing. I do sometimes and have been called rude for it. Why would someone call me rude for doing something that helps me concentrate. While playing i only use one headphone.

I see lots of people with headphones. I never understood why they'd want to do it. It just never made any sense, sort of like wearing headphones to a movie. If it helps you concentrate, then "fine, I guess." I'd never do it though.

The rude part would be, that your response time to verbal questions from your opponents should decrease because you actually don't hear them. Another point is, that it is unpolite to listen to someone/thing else while you should listen to your opponent. Third and last it's sort of paradox to say, that you can concentrate better on the game while you are using parts of your concentration listening to music...

On the contrary, I like listening to music when I build a sealed deck.

I only listen to music during a match if my opponent is a complete dick and I rather hear something other than the grating sound of his voice. As long as the music doesn't interrupt the flow of the match, I don't mind it if my opponent does it.

And it is for this reason we do not allow people to listen to iPods etc at our events.

Tried it, hated it.  Hate when my opponents do it.

I thought it wasn't allowed under the floor rules, since they don't want to have to check everyone's ipods to see if they have outside notes? Or do they just allow people to cheat if they want?

It is against the floor rules and i'd call someone on it. However in type 1 alot of people don't ever call people on things like floor rules or cheating Razz
