Spiketail Sliver
{1} {U}
Creature - Sliver
All Slivers have "Sacrifice this creature: Counter target spell unless its controller pays 1."
1/1

The origins of the card should be obvious.  I don't really have a problem with it being strictly better than Hatchling, since that card doesn't see play anywhere.  It seems odd that no Slivers have been printed that involve countermagic, since Countersliver is the best and most common Sliver deck.  I'm hoping that this card would be a good addition to that archetype.

Force Sliver
{2} {U}
Creature - Sliver
All Slivers have "U, Sacrifice this creature: Counter target spell unless its controller pays 1."

I'm worried about this getting out of hand really quickly.  Most of the wizards that offer relatively easy countermagic are much more expensive.

Ridiculous Sliver, this is.  It's bad enough that the UW ones will be large, flying and uncounterable, now they're all Force Spikes??  Holy shit, UW Sliverfish is the best deck EVAR
Sooo yeah, um, I think it's undercosted.  However, by even raising it by one colorless mana you make it ass.  Boo, it had to be one of those 'tough' cards Wink
What if it were Tap-Sac, or U-Sac, instead of just sac?

I'll change it to U, Sac.  Admittedly it was kind of lazy design to have it mirror Spiketail Hatchling, although I'll have to find it a new name now.  I don't think this can cost any more than 1U, though (except maybe if it was WU).

I don't understand how this is so horribly overpowered as originally worded.  Your opponent goes turn 4 Wrath, what's the difference between you paying 1U for Mana Leak vs. paying 1U for this?  Still, "Tap, sac: Force Spike" seems like better design, because it makes the Sliver player have to decide if they should attack with all their men and not be able to counter the Wrath.

Wrath of God is, I believe, supposed to be the biggest weakness of the hive.  You'll note that they really have no way of dealing with it without outside help.  The fact that this card threatens to violate that suggests to me that the cost needs to be somewhat higher than it would be on a card that wasn't a sliver.  I imagine that this could cost 1UU and give the ability an activation cost of U, T, Sacrifice and it would still be considered a playable card.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.
