This is a 2 part question:

1) If I have a face down Vesuvan Shapeshifter and a Calciderm in play. If I unmorph my Shapeshifter to copy the Calciderm, what happens during my upkeep? Is there a Vanishing trigger for the Shapeshifter?

2) If I have a face-up Maelstrom Djinn and a face down Shapeshifter, and I unmorph my Shapeshifter to copy the Djinn, the Shapeshifter gains Vanishing and gets 2 time counters. If I turn the Vesuvan back down, does it retain the counters but lose vanishing?

1) It becomes a Calciderm but it doesn't have any counters on it. So the next time the Vanishing triggers it doesn't remove anything and thus no trigger that it'll die.

2) On the next upkeep you remove a counter and turn it face down with a single counter on it.

For #2, even when turned down the shapeshifter will still have vanishing, and it will retain any time counters on it.  Were it turned face up as a Maelstrom Djinn again, it would gain another instance of Vanishing and 2 more time counters.  Each separate instance of vanishing triggers separately, meaning 2 counters removed each upkeep
