It seems the author of the Wheel of Time series has finally succumbed to his illness.

Condolences to the family.

His about the author pages claimed that he'd write until they shut the nails in his coffin, and as little as a week ago he was still at work on the final book. People can criticize his writing, but no one can deny that the man had resolve.

As a huge fan of the series over the years, I'm sad to see him go. He's put almost 20 years into the series and won't be able to see it through to completion. I'm sure the final book will be published in some form thanks to his notes, but no chance to enjoy accomplishing his goal? What a bummer.

I was also a fan of the WoT series, since the beginning.
As the books were getting more and more complex in their plot, the last book would have been the hardest one to write in terms of time for him, thus impossible to achieve due to his illness.

Sometimes even Force of Will isnīt enough to acomplish our goals.

Apparently he left his notes in a state such that someone else could finish it.  If they pick Kevin J. Anderson or Brian Herbert, it's time to go on the warpath...

By the way, I've been saying for a while that he was aiming for the writer's dream: to die before finishing a series.

Well, I swore at him for dying when I saw this thread. Dang it, I wanted the twelth book. Plus I could then get the whole series signed... ah well. It is too bad he died, I liked his books and thought he did a good job.

I checked out his website earlier this year to find out the status of the next book and his blog said his wife would finish it if he didn't make it I think.  I think we're safe from KJA and Herbert.  it's sad that he died, he had a great imagination and compelling characters.  I really liked the 11th book after being disapointed by the 10th one.  Now I want to see how it all ends.
