Hi,

I have Kataki in play, he has Tangle Wire.
They both trigger at the beginning of his upkeep. Can he chose to sacrife Tangle Wire to Kataki (Kataki's ability triggers) and then Tangle Wire's ability, which he then wouldn't have to regard anymore since its not in play any more? Or does Tangle Wire's ability trigger no matter how he choses the priorities?

Both abilities will trigger.
Since he is active player, all of his triggered abilities go on the stack first, in any order he wants. Then all of your triggered abilities go on the stack first in any order you want. So with each of you having triggered abilities, the stack looks like this: Wth the cards named, you  have no triggered abilities so he gets to stack them any way he chooses.

{pay for kataki or sacrifice}
{remove a fade counter}  (assuming he would stack this first)
{Tap x permanents}

The top item resolves and he opts not to pay the 1 for the tangle wire and sacrifices it.  The second ability  resolves and does nothing because there are no fade counters to remove since its not in play.  The 3rd ability resolves and he must tap X permanents where X is the number of fade counters on tangle wire as it left play. The game looks back and uses last known information.

{edit}He could also choose to stack the abilities so that he removes the fade counter, then taps permanents then decides to pay/not pay for kataki. But as this is not the scenario you asked about, no need to get too deep into it. Just fixing the error in my original posting.

Thanks for the quick answer, but you said his abilities go on the stack first. You put the abilities in a different way....
You mean the oder of the resolving abilities?

All 3 triggered abilities are controlled by one player.  Kataki has no triggered abilities itself, it gives other objects triggered abilities.  So, the controller of Tangle Wire can choose the order of all 3 abilities on the stack.  Assuming the "tap" trigger of Tangle Wire resolves, the ability will look at the number of counters on Tangle Wire at the time it resolves, or if Tangle Wire is not in play, the number of counters Tangle Wire had on it when it left play.

Thanks. Good reminder to always check oracle text before answering and not just go by memory.
