Cloverfield is this new movie directed by J.J. Abrams. The premise of the movie is some kind of monster is attacking New York, and no it isn't Godzilla. In the trailers the don't actually show the monster. The interesting thing about Cloverfield is that because they don't show the monster the movie is hyped so much and therefore there are entire forums dedicated to solving the mysteries this movie sets forth. If you haven't seen the trailer it is on Youtube, you can search for Cloverfield and there are two trailers out for it right now. After watching the trailers does anyone have any theories on the monster? Or any new information on the film. I have been sucked into finding out about this film because it is so bizarre.

During one of the trailers you can catch a glimpse of the monster, though not enough to determine any detail other than its skyscraper-size.  The one thing that I noticed that creeped me out was a brief moment where you see a couple of soldiers holding a woman by the arms behind a screen or cloth of some sort, and in the second or two of this they show, you can see the woman's torso suddenly balloon in size, implying some sort of parasitic birthing process, and that the threat in this movie is more than just the one monster.

I saw the trailer in at the movies (Beowolf-excellent)

I couldn't get over the fact that the trailer shows some dude "documenting" whatever is happening to NY with a camera, I guess, and no one knows what this thing looks like.  It made me not want to see the film.

Maybe I was just pissed that I didn't know what the thing was (it did seem Godilla-like from what they did show).

Personally I believe that at all marketing meetings, the first person to say the phrase "Viral Marketing" should be shot in the face.  Repeatedly.

That said, Cloverfield looks awesome.  J. J. Abrams is pretty cool, and I think this is well done.  Not because it's "viral" or some shit like that, but it's the counter-example to the trailers that reveal everything.

For men of the internet, I am disappointed at you folks.  They dissected the trailer a while ago and found the monster.

http://www.serversphere.com/monster.html

That's one of the sites I have seen where they show the monster, its got dinosaur legs but with an Alien body, pretty random.

Edit: The director said he found the idea from a monster from a Japanese toy store.  Due to all the Japanese tie-ins, expect a Godzilla like film with the perspective of a shaky camera.

"After these years of arguing I've conceded that Merchant Scroll in particular can be an exception to this rule because it is a card that you NEVER want to see in multiples, under any circumstances. Merchant Scroll can be seen as restricted in a way because should you have 2 in a hand, only one is really useful (that is, only one can get Ancestral)."

I almost don't want to see the monster before I see the film because that is part of what I like so much is not knowing what the monster is before hand, but thanks for the link.
