We had 15 people show up for this event. This turned out to be a bad day for many many people that normally attend, but I'm sure the numbers will be back up to around 25-30 next time. This tourney was also the first unlimited proxy event that I have done. There were mixed feelings on this, but ultimately I have decided to not do this again in the near future. While most people did not have a problem with it, there were not enough people benefiting from the unlimited proxy to make the troubles that go along with it worthwhile. I might consider going up to 20 proxy, but I do not intend on doing unlimited proxy again.

With the reduced number of people, we played for the following:

1st: Library of Alexandria
2nd: English Drain
3rd: FOW + 2 prize pool picks
4th: 2 prize pool picks

After 4 rounds of swiss, we cut to a top 4.

Standing were as follows:

1st) Edwin Harris - R/G Beats
2nd) Mike Maz - 5C Stax
3rd) Darien Elderfield - Tog
4th) Robert Pointer - Uba Stax

A top 4 split followed. Congrats to the top 4! Look for another event in Cary, NC January or so, and an event in December in SC. We really need people to come out and support these events so that I can continue to hold them.

1 Uba Stax

Sorry I couldn't make this one Cody. I've spent the past 2 days sleeping.

How'd Platz control work out for you?

No worries... how's your mouth feeling?

I did horrible with Platz control... I went 1-3 and lost to TurboGush, Uba and GAT. Most of the time I found myself wanting Colossus because I would have been able to win a lot easier... but I only had 1 day to prepare/practice with it Smile

Even though this was a small event, it was still a lot of fun. Mini report time!

Round 1: vs. BW Sui

G1: He plays a turn 1 Bob or something and I FoW. We both do some stuff and he Extirpated my Brainstorms and FoWs and gets down 2 Black Knight and a Jitte, and starts swinging. I have down a Tog, but decide to take the damage until he can swing for lethal (lol), and end up making him use all his Jitte counters to kill my Tog. However, I Tinker for Colossus and pass. He doesn't swing and passes back. I attack, he takes it, and I pass. He attacks, but I E-Truth his knights and he scoops.

G2: I side in Threads of Disloyalty and Needles. Some stuff happens and he gets out a Bob, but I threads it. He plays another Bob, and I threads it too. I swing him down to 6 or so using Brainstorms to not die. Eventually the Bobs get me down to 3 life or so, and I have no more Brainstorm so I mainphase Gifts for Tinker, Lotus, Scroll, BS with 2 or so mana up. He gives me Tinker and Lotus, so I just tinker for colossus and on his eot e-truth the bobs and swing for lethal.

Round 2: vs. Dragon

G1: I mulligan to 5 and he opens with bazaar. He bazaars and discards a dragon, squee, and some win condition. I resolve t1 ancestral and say go. He forgets to return squee like 3 times this game, and he tries several animates, but they meet force of will. I get down Library I think, and am holding Yawg will with a full yard, but am 1 mana short of winning with tendrils, so I pass. He plays an animate spell, but I have 2 bounce spells in hand with mana up. I bounce the dragon with the cip trigger on the stack and he forces, but I just play my other bounce spell and he loses his board and has no cards in hand. I topdeck lotus like a pro, and I yawg will and replay ancestral into tinker with walk in the yard, so i don't even need to go through all the shit to win with tendrils.

During game 1 he made some comment that he was playing forbidden orchards for a sb plan that he wasn't using anymore. I was like w/e, thinking he was probably trying to trick me. When he started sbing in like 10 cards i knew my suspicions were correct. However, I didn't really have anything in the board for oath, so I don't sb.

G2: I mulligan to 6 and we both do some stuff, with me playing some gushes and such. He apparently doesn't have an oath yet, and is sandbagging the orchard, but he has like 2 cards in hand so it doesn't matter. On one of his turns he demonics and passes with like 1 mana up, so I duress and take the oath he tutored for, leaving him with just the orchard. I do some more stuff and he scoops.

Round 3: vs. Flash

G1: My hand is alright, being 2x FoW, island, and some blue cards. My opponent appears to be experienced, so I keep, not wanting to mull. He plays t1 ancestral with force back up, but I fight over it and win. I topdeck brainstorm (lol), but see no land (lol). We both play draw go for a few turns, with me being trapped under my brainstorm cards. The turn before I would see a new card he flashes and wins. My next cards were library, fetchland.

I had seen him play earlier and he too was apparently siding into oath, so I just bring in Disrupts for my topdeck tutors and regrowth.

G2: My hand has Library, I think, and this game is all me, with me just riding the card advantage to the win. However, I can't find a way to win, so he has a chance to regroup. I duress and see 2x angels and 2x fow and flash. He has 7 mana on the board so I take flash. He tops into brainstorm and fetches away his angels. I find yawg will, but instead of going for it, I scroll for force backup. He does something irrelevant and I yawg will and he scoops to my full graveyard.

I figure he will side back into flash, so I bring in leylines. I also bring my tutors back in since disrupt was terrible.

G3: This game was just ridiculous, with me having an answer for everything he does. I open with leyline, and we both do some stuff, getting low on cards. We have a counterwar over something with me just barely winning it by brainstorming into like my 3rd fow. Next turn, he scrolls for ancestral and plays it, but my last 2 cards are misd and a blue card. He is just blown away by how lucky I was (truth), and the next turn I vamp for will and he scoops.

Round 4: vs. R/G beats.

I am the only 3-0, and he has two wins and a draw, so we can't just draw in. We do some math, and I scoop to him since them we would both be guaranteed T4.

The T4 decide to do a cash split plus a pick from the prize pool thing. I pick the foil Brainstorm, Foil Impulse, beat Wasteland pile, and all is well.

All in all, a great event, and I definitely plan to go to more T1 events in this part of the country whenever possible.

I thought Titan or DSC would have been better.  Running one of each may be the solution.
In our match you would have won both games had you either Tinkered for DSC or Titan.  Instead Platz turned into a bad Phyrexian Negator.

Yeah, oh well Smile

Thanks for the report Darien, and congrats on the finish. You deserve it after you got 9th on breakers last time.

So what is the most number of proxies that anyone used?  Did anyone actually proxy like 40 cards?

I think there were 2 people or so who used that many proxies. But the biggest thing that convinced me not to do it again is that everybody who played would have still been playing if it were 15 proxy.

It was recently brought to my attention that a fish deck is missing from the last tourney. This deck has FBB duals in it and has close to $1000 worth of cards in it. It also has very unique anime power proxies in it. If you have any information about this please contact me.
