Sounds like alot of fun.  Since it's on a Saturday, whoever scrubs out can hit up the Casino Smile

I'm assuming they're English Mana Drains, correct?

2 are English the other 2 are Italian. The Mohegan Sun is less than 15 min drive from Arkham.

How many Workshops do you need to run to get the Crypt?  4 in the maindeck?

4th place: 1 Mana Crypt & $20 store credit
That's a huuuge drop off.  Is there a 3/4 playoff at least?

How does $25 entry fee generate $30 in credit?  Are you relying on sales to break even?

Seems like a good tournament with good prize support, I hope you get people.

For this event you will need 4 Workshops in the main deck for the crypt.

If can I will increase the store credit for 4th place. If I get enough players 4th may also get a Drain or daullands.
I will be running a 3/4 playoff.

I have worked a deal with the store I'll be running this event in that allows me to give 120% back in prizes. I will personally make no money on this event regardless of how many people show up. My only motivation is to run a good event and see everyone have a good time in the hopes that if this event works well we will run more.

Huh?

I could see giving money back to 9th if you feel like it, but I'm lost at the prizes out to 12th.

EDIT: Eeek, 25$ and theres no moxen?

Seams to me like a tourny where everyone gets prizes is gona be super fun. Every player in the top 12 can take home somthing, thats cool. Although i do understand the grip about no moxen all the money thats gona be taken in plus some is gona go back. This sounds like a great opportunity to try new decks since the top 12 are gona get prizes.

Regarding 120% with credit:

Consider this situation.  Someone comes in to sell you a card you have in your case listed at 12 bucks.  You give them $6 cash, and it sits on your shelf.  If someone invests $10 in a tournament and earns their entry fee plus 20% in credit, they now have the equivalent of $12 in credit.  They purchase your card listed at 12.

So in this circumstance, you paid $6 to take in $10 cash, and remove stock.  And singles as a stock can be extremely difficult to unload at all, so getting rid of them in this way is very desirable.  And should people go for something like packs or dice or other stock, remember that the store still paid the wholesaler price, not the listed one.  Chances are they paid no more than 60% of what they're charging for it, when you are effectively charging them 83.3%.

The prizes are paid out the way they are because my goal for this event is for everyone to have a good time and everyone enjoys winning prizes. I never cared for awarding prizes only to the top 8. It sucks to get 9 – 12th place and get 6-10 bucks worth of stuff.

Kowal is correct about the prizes. I worked a deal with the store I’m hosting this event in that works on very similar numbers. This will allow me to give out far more value in prizes than I take in. It is my intention that this arrangement will provide good prizes (more that you paid to play) to the top half.

I can understand what is being said about no moxen but please understand that every dollar taken in is given back as prizes. I make no money here. If your looking at Value the 4 Drains at low end would average about 85 each. That’s about $340 total.

If this all goes well I should be able to run a second tournament for an Unlimited Mox Emerald (minty) in the near future.

I don't want to point fingers at anyone, but no one really complains on the forums about winning myriad money store credit.  I don't see anything wrong with this prize structure.

I'm looking forward to this event. The prize structure is quite generous. There will always be a discussion between those players that prefer prizes heavily weighted toward the top places and those who prefer diversified prizes. I prefer diversified prizes, but I may be biased, since I'm not usually among the top players   Very Happy

Glad I found this gem of a tournament right around the corner from where I live!

I heard someone on Magic Workstation ask me "Are you going to Arkham Asylum on the 5th?" And I couldn't figure out if they were quoting Chuthulu or implying I was The Joker. Thankfully there was a 3rd option of a Delicious drain tournament!

I'll be bringing 2 people, maybe 3.

I will be promoting Ron Paul at the Massachusetts Caucus, so I'll be unable to attend.  It does seem like there are a lot of people who were unaware of this event.  New England Vintage on Facebook would have definitely got the word effectively.  I hope you take advantage of it for your future events, and I hope to make your next one.

I had a great time. Was a nice mix of new and veteran players. The store was well run, catered to the needs of hungry people and smokers.

They had an announcer program that stated how long was left in the round and when time was called, which I thought was just too cool for school. Additionally, the store has some of the most insanely awesome Vintage games, toys, and collectibles I've seen in a LONG time. (If you wanted 10x Empire Strikes back engraved drinking glasses to get with your store credit, they were ON IT!)

Overall, very professional, friendly, and efficient. It reminded me of a Myriad games, but instead of a family feeling, was more of a bachelor pad. (Refined Classical music versus Hard Rock) I'll definitely attend their next event.

There were 26 people in all

A legacy U/G Threshold with power took it down, beating Louis Gentile with SliverFlash in the finals. I took 4th with Ponies, succumbing to Ray's Staxless Stax in the third/4th playoff. There was a Stifle/Naught deck in the top 8, a Tyrant Oath, and a Control slaver sans drains that ran Magus of the Moon. I don't remember the last one though.

The last one was ANOTHER Staxless Stax pioneered by Scott Hughes.
