This was going to be an announcement for the first in my hopefully monthly Vintage tourneys. 1st Place was going to be a Mox, most likely an Emerald. However, due to the June 1st restrictions, I'm now trying to gauge interest of players before I shell out for prizes and reserve the place to have it. This was going to be the first of hopefully many Vintage events in the Baltimore area. This may not sound serious, but it is. It is in this part of the forum, as I see no point to apply for TO status then not go through with it. I and the rest of the Baltimore Vintage community (all 3 of us, lol jk) really want to get this rolling, but this threatens my ability as funds are very limited, and the possible backlash may make it a disaster financially. I hope that serious players will still play and ride out these (absurd, IMO) changes. Please give honest feedback. Thanks.

Seriously, I'd still hold it. If not for some of my friends who are in the area! Plus you have access to quite a North Virginia Legacy crowd. Keep the proxy amount generous and you should have a decent showing.
The Eternal community always reacts to surprise this way. And we always get over it. It took me an hour and a half, but it might take people a week and a half. People don't like a growing list of cards on the restricted list. However, if they really care about the format, they'd be in the development labs cooking up a new format, if for no other reason but to prove that Brainstorm needs to be unrestricted. And you know what? 95% of the people that are screaming bloody murder really do care about the format and will continue to play Vintage.
I've seen a healthy amount of testing happening. People seem content, and I know I sure am. Once people settle in, it'll be business as usual. Hopefully, it'll be even better than the past two years.

I would like to echo what Zherbus said.
Despite the initial reaction on the forums here and on other boards about the restrictions being the end of the world, you'll find that people still love to play magic since it's such a great game. They'll want to play in tournaments. I know that I still do.
Considering that I have 4 foil merchant scroll, 4 foil gush, 4 foil masques brainstorm, 4 foil ponder, 4 mirage flash, et al., have been playing with all of those foil cards in every single tournament in some iteration since gush was unrestricted, and have walked away with so many moxes, one might think that I would be a tad bit upset about what has happened. I am not upset at all. I thought about the restrictions for about an hour as I typed up a tournament report (where I won a beta jet) and welcomed them.
Did I win a lot in the pre-June 1 format? Yes.
Did I have a lot of fun in the pre-June 1 format? Yes, it was magic after all.
Am I going to miss the pre-June 1 format? Not a chance.
Right now, the vintage format is like a giant room filled with wrapped gifts and we, the vintage community, is a group of 8-year olds. I don't know about you, but I sure had a lot of fun unwrapping those presents when I was 8.

I feel what you're saying. While I would like to make a profit, or at least break even, it is a labor of love, and I just felt this may be the exact wrong time to start, but I think I will go through with it. I also didn't want to put a bunch of disclaimers for prizes and such, but I can't give away a Mox for 10 people...I'm doing this solo and can't afford to take a triple digit loss. Thanks for the replies.
*Heads off to TO thread*
