Thanks to everyone for coming out to yet another successful ICBM Open.  This time I gave away a beautiful Alpha Mox Emerald, a played UL Mox Ruby, 2 Illusionary Masks, and 4 Tropical Islands.  Attendance was down a bit from last time, but we still got a solid turnout of 35 people.  We had one minor re-pair in round 2 or 3, but otherwise everything ran smoothly.  We did have a number of judge calls, including a double game loss in round 1 for drawing extra cards and presenting an illegal deck (in games 1 and 2), a game loss due to communication failure in round 6, and a game loss for an illegal decklist in the top 8.  All in all, everything worked out fine.  Nighbor and Owen split, but they did play out a full match in which Nighbor emerged victor with a brand new Vintage deck, Scarecrow.

Once again, thanks to everyone for coming out.  I hope to see everyone there for the next one, as well as the faces I missed from previous Opens.  ICBM Open #5 will be either at the end of May or in early June, depending on what date conflicts with the least.  I will get an announcement up in the next week or so.  Without any further ado, here are the top 8 lists.

Wasn't able to make a new topic in the tournament reports forum, so hopefully its okay to put here. If not feel free to remove.
Icbm open #4
Ryan Duby's 4th place report

For the last few icbm opens i've been placing well with Deez noughts, using the list from the icbm boards almost card to card. The weekend before icbm open#3 i wasn't sure what to play since none of the decks i was testing were really working out great, mud and the canadian elemental deck, so nate told me to look at the icbm boards and try out their deeznoughts list. I through it together the night before and ended with a top 8 finish the next day. It has continued to plow through almost anything that the current meta has to offer and will probably continue to do so for quite some time.
The list i played can be found on themanadrain and icbm boards so i'm not going to post it here. The only changes i made to the primer's list was to drop one cutpurse in favor of a single daze which actually helped out a couple times. And i cut down to  one hurkyl's recall and put in two extirpates.
With my belly filled on mcdonald's breakfast, my wallet filled thanks to John for buying my power nine proxies and my deck ready to crush, i started my round one against Mike Fredrick playing oath. My notes aren't great so if i messed up any info feel free to correct me.

Round one - Mike Fredrick playing oath
Game one: From my notes, i stifle a few fetchs and waste a land or two and start going aggro with a dimir cutpurse and eventually get a nought out.
Game two - Goes pretty much the same with me playing control and going aggro with bob and cutpurse.

Round two - Alex Franson U/r stax
Game one - I get off an early thoughtseize and make a fast dreadnought for the win.
Game two - This game turns into an attration war as alex gets smokestack and welder out in two turns thanks to double mox, lotus in the opening hand. I eventually get mask out and sneak in a nought. I believe i make a misplay and trying to fetch forgetting that he has stifle in his hand, i have to sac a mox and he is able to weld out my nought. However his deck isn't giving him much love and i'm able to get a bob out with mask and ride him home.

Round three - Brandon playing goblins
I'm not looking forward to this match up since goblins should be able to kick the crap out of me and i have no real answers to his guys if he earwigs my noughts:-( Lucky for me Ben calls out repairings! And I'm now playing against Trodgon.

Round three - Trogdon playing mud
Game one - I open with a fast though seize that naps his trinisphere, he also flops a hand down with a metal worker, staff, one sphere, 2 shop and ancient tomb! Not something i want to see from a mud deck Sad However i'm able to get out a quick nought through a one sphere and waste a shop to win the game.
Game two - He gets a quick jesters scepter taking, recall, walk, fow, nought, land  and something else. I start taking beats from his karn, but i'm able to get a mask out before he kills my two moxen and i throw a nought out to play some defense. The nought turns the tables as i'm able to go aggro due to trogdon's ancient tombs hurting him alot this game.

Round four - Chris Nighbor playing painter servant
Game one - I make good use of stifles stopping lands and get through thanks to dreadnought. No real notes from game one.
Game two - This is my first loss all day, to painter no less. Anyways, he keeps me from really doing anythihng and beats me down for a number of turns with painter and i eventually get grindstoned.
Game three - Pretty much like game one, i seize his hand a take a mox, his hand was something like force, demonic consult, thrist, Rack and ruin and a T. academy. I figure that will buy me some time, but gets mana and eventually drops sol ring and starts beating me down with painter again. I land a needle to stop grindstone but he has answers to all my stuff after getting library of alexandria going.
This match was scary, any deck playing blue should be afraid!

Round five - Jerry Yang playing Flash
Game one- I lead with an opening of mox jet, pearl and land, thoughtseize takes his demonic tutor. He fetchs but i have a stifle to slow him down. After a couple of turns i get dark confidant out and start the beats for the win.
Game two - Pretty much liek game one, playing control and change to aggro to get the win.

Round six - Draw into top 8

Top 8
Round one - Soly playing oath
Game one - Soly's deck gives him the nuts and blows me out of the water.
Game two - I get a quick extirpate and hit his oaths, i'm able to keep him off red mana and extirpate his gushs. Soly tries to go crazy with a huge storm count and takes a bit of damage from fastbond. I think my bob finishes him off.
Game three - Is me playing the control and i am able to keep his oath off the table and eventually do the smash attack with nought.

Round two - Owen playing doomsday
Game one - i get a decent 6 card hand but he's able to blaze out a fast tendrils
game two - Ends pretty much the same, huge storm count into tendrils.

At the end of the day I take home an illusionary mask Smile which is cool cause now i finally have a real one to put in my deck. IF you are ever looking for something to play this weekend, make it DEEZ NOUGHTS!

Props:
Icbm for the great events and prize support
All my opponents for being friendly and good sports even soly Smile
King for the sage like advice
Trogdon for telling me what i could have done against painter
John for showing off the sweet proxies i made for him
Me making top 8!

Slops:
Me losing to painter Sad

I'd love to hear from the pilots of  the B/R and U/R stax decks -- what matches they had, and how they performed.  Excellent work, fellow rogues!

What was Trogdon's advice against the Painter's Servant deck?

Trogdon told me that I should have extirpated his red elemental or pyroblasts during our third game. I was holding just a fow and the pate in hand when chris thoughsiezed me and i didn't think to use the pate right away...definatly one of those slap on the head moments. I will keep that advice in mind if painter starts showing up as a good meta call Wink

Ben and Dan:  Given that there were eight oath's in your tournament and only one top 8ed, do you still think that Oath is the deck to play?

Duby:  Great finish, I think you're getting good with deez naughts.

I dont think anyone knows how good Scarecrow is but it has serious game against gush desks, and 8 rebs are bad news for tyrant anyways.  But oath is still rock solid.

Have you ever tried out to play more than one Daze? In my latest list, I played three of them. Dark Illusions might be not such a good mana denial deck that Null Rod Fish is, but it still has the abbility to seriously cut opponents of their mana and so make Daze pretty good. The "bring-back-Island-effect" doesnt really matter - except 9sphere Workshops for sure - as you really play all major threats and powerful moves with just two mana - take Stifle/Nought, Mask, Dark Confidant or Duress with one mana open for Stifle or Brainstorm. And with the Dazes you get the possibility to protect these powerful moves in the first two turns very often with counter backup and not too randomly with double counter backup. You also get the possibility to outtap early for lets say Confidant and still be able to counter Oath, Flash, Scroll - whatever.

I was thinking about a bomberman deck with grindstone servant combo in it as second kill en confirting the main kill to pyrite spell bomb.

the salvager combo is graveyard based and the servant combo is just permanent based.

as well you can just run 3 auriok salvager 4 trinket mages en 3 painter's servents as creatures.

The trinket mage's are a good resource to get the grindstone or the pyrite spellbomb ( aswell for your answers to your opponent e.g. pithing needle, engineered explosives etc)
