The Manila Vintage Scene

We had 6 rounds of proxy fun. Had our Top 16, cut to top 8, then semis and the finals. Our 2006 Nationals Champion James Porter won the first ever Mox given away here in Manila. It was a varied field... had the usual Gushbond decks with lots of crazy tech going on. Games were going down the wire...very long... with most games decided by the last five turns. The finals was anti-climactic as Mr Porter went the beatdown route via Tinker-DSC in two games using an orthodox deck of Fastbond-Zuran Orb-COW featuring Oona Queen of the Fae, which he named Centrum D!ldo, beating another suprise deck... a Legacy inspired Dragon Stompy.

Yeah, he could have made a difference. Wink

Had feelers that Herbig would come but only for a couple of hours, which means he cannot finish the tourney if he decided to join. He's assigned several miles away from Manila which makes it hard for him to travel and cannot afford to stay on the road when it gets dark. Hoping to have him on board on the next tourney  Wink Maybe next time we'll fetch him from his place  Smile

Please continue to post about these tournaments. I would love to play in Manila if there's another one this summer!

I miss the shit out of that kid.

Also, his power is all safely back here in the States.  I'm not sure what kind of effect that has on his ability to play Vintage, but I know he's been playing a lot more type 2 than type 1 lately.

yes sure. we've been holding Vintage tournaments for some time already but we only recenly got the organizer status.

Anyways, Vintage here in Manila is mostly DCI sanctioned events, we havent really been bitten by the proxy bug. We have monthly tournies and in fact we'll be holding our Mid-year Vintage champs this June. Though its sanctioned, its still a blast. You'll hear from us more often and provide more statistics that somehow will help Vintage in general. Perhaps August we can have another Mox tourney.

I had a development seminar about an hour from Manila start this same day... Really sucks.

I will definitely make the next one.  The only MTG I do up here in Baguio is FMNs...
