Proposed Card:
Dark Confidence
1UB
Instant
Reveal the top three cards of your library, then put those cards into your hand.  Lose life equal to the sum of their converted mana cost.

Discussion:
Dark Confidant is a good mechanic.  Like Ad Nauseam or Dark Confidant, this card has a "build around me" feel.  Even in a deck built around it, it will likely cost its controller a minimum of 3 life.

I want to hear people say "Bob for 3" when they play this.

Current Version:
Dark Confidence
1UB
Instant

What about allowing the player to choose the number of cards they keep, soving the rest to the bottom of the deck, but keeping the life cost the same?

I really like this card. I think it is perfect in its original form. I think it is a powerful draw spell and the drawback is necessary.

The one thing is that Wizards hates instant-speed card draw.  They think it makes permission strategies dangerous.  They would be very reluctant to print such an obviously tournament-worthy 3-mana, +2 CA instant.  That said, I like the card.

In order for Wizards to print that card, it would have to be a sorcery

for an instant speed effect you usually need to add 1 or 2 more colorless mana or make it much more mana specific ( {U} {U} {B} for instance)

I like UBB as an Instant.  I'm fascinated by the idea of asymmetrical costed gold cards.

I agree, with the possible change of mana cost as Anusien suggested. If you wanted to freaky, you could make it {U/B} {B} {U}.
