I have been playing a version of this deck for a while now.Its a fun deck to play and  a hard deck to beat. Here is some things i have learned

DISCARD
4 duress
3 thoughtseize
3 hymn

The extirpates you have main should be kept in the board.

DRAW
1 recall
1 brainstorm
1 top
1 ponder

This is my blue package...... fof is a bit slow in my opinion.

RITUALS
i think 3 to 4 rits are a must
1. first turn necro.
2. helps hardcast akroma and hell kite
3. you have tendrils and will............plays like tps almost with the rits.
4. the best reason of all........hymn is a dub. black spell . When it comes down to all you have is 2 orchards in play and you die to your little guys you gave away as gifts .....you will hate life TRUST ME!!!!
That and the best first turn ever.........land ,rit, duress.hymn . wins games!

Engineered explosives
They are a must!!!!! It sucks to have to lose a game to a meddling mage or chalice......

I got this deck to top eight, what you do with it is up to you .If any thing at all try out my advise on the rits.

And by that i mean work your changes around the rits. Over all try the blue just for draw. Two last things that are great in this deck .
scroll rack....
imperial seal...
With the blue draw ,top, and scroll rack, imp. seal is fantastic!

sorry about the split post I'm at work and had to switch screens.

Thanks Smile Dropping FoF for Scroll Rack.

Recall + Lotus + Emerald + Sapphire + Jet = A crapload of dollars... Sad Will try to get complete P9 but have $300'000 to pay down on my house so it may take some time before I will get the pieces. Perhaps one at a time. What's the price for beta moxes these days btw? (yeah I have this thing against white bordered... so no unlimited)

Because bluebased oath is a completely different deck, please stay on topic Smile

(http://www.deckcheck.net/deck.php?id=19789 if interrested in the bluebased version with hellkite and akroma)

Why run any blue then.  If you feel the deck needs cards like FoF, Ponder and Brainstorm, why not run the rest of the blue cards that make this deck strong.  Also, Is enlightened tutor worth splashing.  It's really not that good and you only have 5 ways to cast it.

Wouldn't Spirit of the Night be better than than Akroma if we are using rits?

hymn......a fantastic card for this style of oath . Honestly it has won me a ton of games
fof....... one of my faves but not in this build.
In the b/g build i feel that you still need the draw... recall ,ponder, and storm. then scroll rack and top.

spirit of the night......with rits not a bad choice but akroma is still the cats ass. and she is really only a lotus away from hard casting.

I have played a ton of different versions of oath and i do think this one was the overall better deck.
With the blue build it plays a bit slower ,tho if you are playing blue i think its better to use tyrant and witness. or dub hellkite.

You can't be serious.  In what ways is this deck better then the blue based versions?  You have far less deck manipulation.  Most importantly you can't stop your opponent from doing anything.  You have a bunch of discard, but only 2 board control cards.  Anything they can top deck you will lose to.

Id rather rip the problem out of their hand then wait to counter it.

How often does that turn one duress get countered ........
Almost never cause why lose two cards and a life to force unless the rest of your hand is godly.
Then if you force or not, a follow up hymn will rock your world so will duress or thoughtseize.

So i guess what I'm saying is...... If you eat their hand and they cant do anything ,i would say you stopped them.

Yeah but say you're playing against a deck with chalice.  They play turn one chalice@1 it turns off 19 spells in your deck.  Chalice@2 turns off 11.  You're only ways to deal with that are going first, or your two EEs.

I think in order to claim this is the best oath deck out there you would hae to produce some sort of evidence.  What matchups do you feel you've improved on?  Which are worse?  Have you had any good finishes in tournament play?

I'd cut blue card drawing for Night's Whispers . Another route to consider is running Eternal Witness in the sideboard so you can switch to Witness -> Will ->Tendrils win.

Duress doesn't stop a topdecked Yawg Will or Tutor-->yawg will.

I have been in the top 8 at bb with it .....
stax beat it
tezz oath beat it
tyrant oath beat it

fish type decks are a rough time .There is no doubt about that ......Tho i have made some  changes.

combo........ If they go off first turn ,well shit happens,if not i can normally take control of the game

a very good friend of mine said with this style of oath .....If a hymn sticks an angel gets her wings .a true statement

all and all .... mines better then yours ...yours is better then mine . blah blah blah

Its a good deck .Its enjoyable to play.It wins
Sure its not one of those fancy team built named decks. It might not be the deck of the year......... but it beat the kid who won the lotus at the NJ open .......it beat the bb player of the year runner up(non tourney to be fair and honest). And i had a good amount of people .....my bad . I had a lot of good players give me props on it.

BG Oath version something something... dropped blue completely (and the enlightened tutor).

Spells {31}
4 Duress
4 Hymn to Tourach
3 Thoughtseize
4 Oath of Druids
4 Night's Whisper
1 Regrowth
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Yawgmoth’s Will
1 Crop Rotation
1 Tendrils of Agony
1 Necropotence
1 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Engineered Explosives
1 Krosan Reclamation
1 Scroll Rack

Creatures { 2}
1 Akroma, Angel of Wrath
1 Hellkite Overlord

Mana {27}
4 Forbidden Orchard
4 Bayou
2 Polluted Delta
2 Bloodstained Mire
1 Swamp
1 Forest
1 Strip Mine
2 Wasteland
4 Chrome Mox
1 Mox Diamond
1 Lotus Petal
4 Dark Ritual

SB:
4 Eternal Witness
4 Extirpate
1 Spirit of the Night
2 Platinum Angel
4 Null Rod

A roughly not fine tuned build, but good start. Probably not as strong in big tournaments as the bluebased versions. Top 4 from last torney was Pox, Rgw Beats (me), Metalworker and Rwu Ajaniburn so that's the stuff I'm up against, no control slaver, grim long or painter yet Smile

Edited list:
-1 MD Forest
+1 MD Overgrown Tomb
-4 SB Extirpate
-1 SB Spirit of the Night
-2 SB Platinum Angel
+4 SB Leyline of the Void
+1 SB Gaea's Blessing
+2 SB Serum Powder

Tested a whole lot against Mono Red Goblins and Rb Goblins today. Felt that the times I did not have Oath or tutor in my opening hand the deck was not fast enough. I don't have any defense before my angel or dragon hits play so it was crap facing piledriver, warchief and their gang on turn 3 and 4. Will do some more testing tomorrow against other decks. Another thing is that I feel Mox Diamond is better than Chrome Mox, perhaps this should be a thread of its own but what do you prefer of the two?
