27 players battled it out for a First place Mox Jet, and a second place grim tutor. Here are the standings (Typed out by hand) of the tournament after round 5. I only typed the OMW, PGW, and OGW for those in top 8. WTF at Jamison and I?! The Far left shows Duby (Ryan DuBois, long black hair, barely visable) playing against Belcher, Danny Friedman (center) playing against Elves, and Owen Turtenwald (table behind Danny) playing some majikal cards.

He wouldve been way more prepared for the extended.dec if he had 3 cryptic commands.
This tournament was way fun congrats to everyone who made top8.
Oath is still good enough to win.

29 people actually. Presumably a few dropped, but I know it was 29 in the beginning. Very nice metagame. I faced:
Belcher (2-1) Tez (2-0) Oath (0-2) Long (2-0) 5-color Aggro (ID)
and in the top 8: Mana Ichorid (2-1) 5c Aggro (2-1) Oath (split, but 0-1 in our one game to determine winner)

i think I had the best play all day. Dude scoopeed after he passed and i plated ochard, mox, oath. He said somthing like FUKING OATH. He lost to Duby also, we and a great laugh about it. My deck played ALOT better than expected. Always next time.

Very nice Oath deck. I had almost the same build at one time ( except only one hellkite) but I kept losing to those annoying painter decks, however I see the painter decks here have no graveyard removal ( ?) which means they can't win vs an oath deck with blessing in it.

Yes,Tarmogoyf is probably better than Chameleon Colossus, but comparing it to Tarmogoyf is like comparing your girlfriend to Carmen Electra - one's versatile and reliable, the other's just big and cheap.(And you'd run both if you could get away with)

Soly, you have to be careful. When you start playing cryptic command, next thing you'll be playing fairies. After that you'll be splashing red in the sideboard without any maindeck red sources. Then you start playing extended.

Somebody tell Chapin how counterbalance works?
"Of all the major Vintage archetypes that exist and have existed for a significant period of time, Oath of Druids is basically the only won that has never won Vintage Championships and never will (the other being Dredge, which will never win either)." - Some guy who does not know vintage....

Any Painter list that doesn't have 3 or 4 Tormod's Crypts or Relics in the SB is wrong, unless they're main.

Any Painter list that doesn't have 3 or 4 Tormod's Crypts or Relics in the SB is wrong, unless they're main. This painter deck has 4 in the sideboard which I overlooked before, which is good, but that means there is a Auto loss 1st game vs Oath. I guess Ben carp still made the right meta choice, since there weren't other Oath decks, and then the 2nd game he got unlucky or just lost.

Game 1 he had a strong hand and I couldn't get anything going, and game 2 it was the same. The Blessing isn't actually the biggest issue, because I have Magus of the Moon as an auto-win if he doesn't get Oath down in time. I can play Painter and REB his Oaths, and I can always just get Titan out and kill with that. The real issue is that King James Oath has a full set of counters, plus Duress effects, plus a nice draw/tutor complement, plus an awesome win condition, and I couldn't deal with it all at once. I honestly have no idea how I'd go about attacking Oath, but I'd probably have to give up on Grindstone, board those out, and bring in Goblin Bombardments.

Thanks Mike for the lists. I know what it means to type vintage lists from magic-players-self-written paper. 6th Jamison Bryant (ICBM) Mana Dredge (AKA one of the easiest decks for me to type , thank you Jamison!) Chris' deck misses 3 maindeck cards. Probably Black Lotus and two Moxen? I like his man-a-base

I'll admit Chris' deck was suprisingly good. At first when I started playing him I thought I was just going to roll him based on his limited knowledge of the format but he played quite well.
Heres my half assed tournament report
Round one Chris who top4'd
Game 1 I get an early oatrh and thats all. Game 2 I never see oath and dudes beat me. Game 3 He turn one ancestrals and plays 2 quick Dark Confidants. They almost get there but I top deck oath and Archangel absorbs the team while he dies to his own bob.
Round Two Jeremiah playing U/w land tax
Game 1 I never see business and lose Games 2 and 3 I keep risky hands but they pay out.
2-0 4-2
Round Three Ben Carp with Painter I dont remember a whole lot but I basically go nuts and pull off a blow out.
Round 4 ID with Jamison Bryant
Round 5 ID with Soly
Top8 The famous TK playing stax
Im a little nervous about this because Tommy was handing me my ass in testing. Game 1 goes forever and I get oath but can't find orchard. Tommy then clears house with a ramped up smokestack. I never regain any board and lose.
Game 2 I get an early oath and tommy keeps a risky hand with zero colored souces but 2 ray of revelation. Luckily he scoops when angels hit the board.
Game 3 goes forever but luckily Tommy locked himself out of this one with 3 spheres. I eventually get a bunch of lands and waste his colored sources and win.
Top4 Danny Friedman with Turbo Tinker Game 1 he gets vault/key turn 2 and I can't answer. Game 2 I get a turn 2 oath and ride it. Games 3 is pretty much the same as 2.
Finals vs. Ben Carp Its a long day so we decide to play one game for bragging rights and we split the mox jet and grim tutor.
I chalice@0, and duress him. I see Lotus, Magus, Sol ring, Volcanic Island, Thirst 4 Knowledge, Pyroblast, and Drain i believe. I take pyro. He goes land sol ring. I play ancestral and gain enough advantage to win pretty easy.
Props. Duby and Darrick for convincing me to play oath again and driving. Xtreme games for the good prize support and nice clean venue. Myself for winning.
Slops All the people on the drain who claim oath cant win in this metagame.

Yea Chris is a really good all around Magic player. I am glad to see a few of my regular type II players make the jump to Vintage! I know the 25 proxie rule helps out a LOT! Gratz goes to Ben (I think) for coming up with the 25/25/25 idea!
