Hi,

I'm a long-time magic player (since revised or there abouts) who suffers the indignity of only really caring about vintage but living in the UK where, as far as I can tell, it is dead as a dodo. Or rather, it never even really lived (I have numerous theories about why, but I'll save those for another day)

What with that, I suppose I drift in and out of the game, occasionally finding someone to play with, then packing it in for a couple of years, then getting an itch, reading the Mana Drain obsessively and buying random jank off ebay for kicks.

So - are there any groups of vintage players left in the UK? (especially London where I'm based) - surely there's enough old-timers like me, avid Mana drain fans and why not a few American ex-pats who play Type I in the big smoke to have a few games in a pub somewhere every week or two? I think it would be especially good if there are people in London who want to play but don't pack power to develop a proxy-based Type I scene here similar to the States - it's the only way I can ever imagine the format taking off here..

Anyway, help me the Mana Drain, you're my only hope...

PS: I'm a normal, well-adjusted, sociable human-being with no prior convictions and all my own teeth if that helps.

Hello!

In my local store (Eclectic Games, Reading) we are trying to hold a vintage tournament every 2 months.

We play 10 Proxies

We've have one so far, 8 people showed, and the first prize was 4 Force of Will.

I will let you know when we have the date and prizes confirmed for the next event, but it'll be £10 entry, and probably on a sunday in mid-late february.

We also play legacy every other month (in the gaps between vintage) the first legacy event was last sunday, and we had about 15 people (can't remember the exact number) play for the prize of 4 Plateu.

So we're hoping to keep the prizes decent, but they won't be huge until we can ensure stable turnouts. For the vintage events at the least I'll personally be keeping up some fun (and maybe even useful!) door prizes too, and trying to keep the focus on a fun day for everyone.

Please feel free to ask any questions, the more people coming to play vintage the better as far as I'm concerned! : )

Take care.

robert.

Hooray! A reply! I had completely lost hope - and was feeling massively guilty about buying an ancestral recall yesterday Very Happy

Really looking forward to attending an event soon - as I said in my PM, I really hope that these proxy tournaments can attract some new players and grow into something great.

To all the other Manadrainers who read this thread but didn't reply: I thank you nonetheless! I have been despairing but I felt at least that some of you shared my misery. Cheers!

If there are any other UK based lurkers out there, please do chip in, and spread the word about the Reading tournaments. I'm sure with a 10 proxy limit, there are numerous Legacy players who could be tempted to play (and be cured of their wicked Type 1.5 ways!) Smile
