I won't be there since I live in IL, but I just wanted to post suggesting that you give people more than 2 day's notice for a tournament.

I'll quote what I said over on MTGS, where I never received a response.

Sanctioned, unsanctioned, proxies?

Also, 50% payout is thoroughly lame. If you get all 40 players, that's $1000 taken in from the players. $500 of that would go to the store and $500 would go to the players, with only $250 going to first place. That's a $25 entry fee with a chance to win $250 at a 40 player tournament (oh, and the $150 and $100 second and third place prizes). Those aren't exactly what I call great odds.

Honestly, these players should just take their money and rent their own venue if you're going to take that much of the entry fees. I'm being completely serious.

50% payout? Really? If this had a fair payout, I would have seriously considered coming to this event.

Go easy on the guy.  If he's new at running a tournament, we need to provide constructive and not hateful criticism.  We want to encourage more Vintage TOs.

For your next tournament announcement, consider this:
*) Post at least a month in advance, and make sure to bump it at least every week.
*) Post whether proxies are allowed, how many, and what requirements you have for them plainly and clearly.
*) Post the address of the store in the announcement
*) If you want people to e-mail to preregister, put the e-mail address in the post.
*) If you want preregistration, you probably ought to put a deadline.  (I suggest against it since you seem like you don't have the time to post here often; you don't want players e-mailing you the night before and showing up because you haven't had a chance to tell them no).
*) I would strongly suggest increasing the cut of the pool to go to players.  At the very least, 4th place should also win something.  Having to have a 3/4 playoff is the worst.
*) What is the judging going to be like?  Will there be a sanctioned judge?

Good luck with your event!

This is fair enough regarding the specifics of the announcement. I apologize for the remark concerning proxies. A 50% payout, however, is insulting.

the store is new at running vintage tournys and this one today will be the first. only reason for the payout being 50% is so we can support power payouts hopefully on the next tourny. looking to host a t1 tourny once a month. all input is greatly appreciated. i wanna make it a tourny where every month people will keep showing up and the prize support is to the players liking. please keep with the input.
