That is a pretty interesting Ichorid list. I like it.
I only changed a couple cards in this list after winning the Pittsburgh tournament the week before. I tried out the Repeal, and it was alright. Not sure if it's better than the random Mana Drain I had in there before or not.

Steve - trying to watch one forum while at work is dodgy enough I was going to post later this evening, but thanks for posting today. Paul, I look forward to playing you again in the future and I'm sorry that I couldn't uphold my end of my "see you again in the top 8" comment. Will you be back in Philly for the tournament on 6/6?

Looks like I got an open calendar for that weekend, so more than likely I'll be there.

First of all, thanks to everyone who made the trip to play vintage at my event; I hope you all had a great time and I'm already looking forward to the next Philadelphia Open (maybe a two-day event?). I really have enjoyed running the past two events, and based on their success you can all look forward to these being a vintage mainstay every six months (to coincide with States and Regionals for the other T2 main event). If anyone has any suggestions on what to improve for next time or on what they really enjoyed, post it here! What did everyone think of the 10 proxy limit? Did anyone out there not attend because of the proxy limit? Would you guys like to see more prizes for those players who play with no proxies?
Congrats to Paul Mastriano for winning! Congrats to Nick Detwiler for finishing 2nd and also being the highest placing player with no proxies!
Also, many thanks to everyone who came and played in any of the events I held on Saturday.

I really liked the idea of a prize for a player with no proxies (I liked it before the event that is). To the best of my knowledge there were three players in the top 8 who were playing fully powered, non proxy decks, which I thought was awesome. I don't know what it's normally like, but that seemed high. I know that everybody from our N.Y. group came with 10 proxies or less (without having to alter their lists) so I don't think the 10 proxy rule was prohibitive. It's a great venue too by the way - clean, infinite space, etc, etc, etc. I love that it's so close to Reading Terminal Market, which is an awesome place for a meal. And having a post tourney dinner at the Hard Rock was nice. Both are within two blocks of the Convention Center.

1. I think the proxy limit was fine. Thoyou could opt to sell 5 more for a buck each. 2.The no-proxy prize it a fantastic idea! The one thing i think you could do differently is, Give it to the person with the highest record that did not make the top 8/16 cut. This way its one more person who gets a prize and leaves happy! 3.Keep doing philly opens!!!!!!!!!! . Thats just cause ,well....... Nick coss events kick ass!

even though I went 0-3 drop, it was still a good time. It seemed like a lot of my games I didn't have reach to get there with the W/B/R fish style deck.

I enjoyed this event, felt unburdened by the proxy limit, and look forward to the next one. No two-days, though, not a big fan of dedicating full weekends to cards unless I'm on the road.

Great event as always Nick. Thanks for running it! Also congrats to Silverman (a local player much better known for his Vs. and Yugioh prowess) for making top 4. I thought you'd either a) punk out or b) scrub out. I must say I was very impressed by your play. I think it may be time to retire RG Beats though. (Start playing Dredge perhaps?) I love the deck but it just has absolutely no way to deal with an Inkwell Leviathan. Both my losses were due to that damn card. It appears to be a good omen for Paul to defeat me in the swiss rounds... he's gone on to win the whole thing both times it's happened! (Vintage worlds and this.) So I dropped at 2-2 and went on to house the EDH tourney with my Thelon Rofellos deck. Now that I think of it my deck was illegal as I simply switched my general from Thelon for Rofellos, completely not realizing that Thelon has a in his text box. Didn't matter much as he never saw play. I shall be asking off for the June 6 tourney first chance I get.

Always enjoy playing in your tournaments regardless how I do. Maybe next time I'll make top 8 again.
Would it be too much to ask if you could post a list of all the different decks that were there and how many of each were represented?
Post merged, welcome to the boards, but please don't double post. -Eastman

Ok I'll bite. How in the heck does Confidant work in Tezzeret? Or did people just scoop to vault/key with confidant on the board? Or.... what? I tested confidant with vault/key once, took the time to sleeve it up and everything, then killed myself in each of the first two games and put it away. Granted Mastriano's list here has a relatively low curve, but do the advantages of Bob over other draw outweigh the % of wins that he turns to losses, post combo?

The percentage is probably really low, like less than 5%. This isn't really the right thread for that though.

I actually played Paul's deck this weekend and did die once with infinite turns. The rest of the time I was able to either find Top or just kill them before I died. It does happen but infinite turns with no opponent stopping you makes it pretty easy to find top or tinker.

That 1st place deck is absolutely brutal. Congrats on the creative design, but also on playing it, it looks extremely difficult to play perfectly.

My deck doesn't usually go infinite - it takes several extra turns and makes the kill before Bob/Mana Crypt eats you. Once you have TV+key/Tez you pretty much want to get rid of Bob if possible, or at least get Top down there. I stole some tech from a European deck I saw that had Repeal in it as a nice way to get extra mileage out of remora and solve the post-infinite Bob/Mana Crypt problem. Best advice I can give is to just focus on making the combo happen and then worry about killing them later =)
The Bobs are worth it because they enforce Mystic Remora. I played a weird Grow-remora hybrid deck I designed at Waterbury that didn't really work for me, but it had the combination of Remora and Confidant which I really liked. If they dont play into your remora, then you draw a bunch of extra cards with Confidant and win. If they play into your remora, you get to draw a bunch of cards and you win that way (and you usually get a few extra ones off Bob anyways). That's pretty much the core concept I was designing around.

I play a similar deck some spanish guys designed, which basically plays Tendrils instead of Vault/Key. So far it runs very smoothly and the Tendrils kill works very well with the Confidants. Did you test Tendrils as well? What were your results and what made Vault/Key better? I know, that Vault/Key is very easily get together for a very low colorless mana cast. But when you start to play Repeals anyway, it becomes very easy to get the Tendrils kill as well, as most of the times you already have hit with a Confidant a few times.
