With Iona Oath/VaultKey getting hyped and places good in tournaments, is Angel Oath dead?

Is there any reason to still run Angel Oath instead of the new version post Zendikar?

I don't think there is any rise in hex/depths decks... at least not in this format.

Thanx Smile The build with 2 Hellkite + 1 Akroma?

And what would you use as a second win condition? Vault/Key or Tendrils?

Honestly, I'd run 2 hellkites, 1 magister sphinx, and tinker for magister as the alt. win condition, but if you wanted to throw time vault in there, thats cool too

I feel that angel oath is alive and well!
As with iona you can still run vault/key combo.I personally run with 3 null rods,a needle, and 3 strip effects. My main deck creatures are 2 hellkite overlord and akroma. I put Iona in the sb over a second empyrial archangel.

I like the speed of the the fat haste creatures against most builds.

I know you mean Akroma, but Iona is technically an Angel as well!

In any case with Oath, I have always had a hard time finding the Oath and getting it to stick/trigger.  I seem to be the only one with this experience, and I guess I am unlucky, but it never seems to work out for me as consistently as other combo/control decks (like slaver did, or gifts).

Here's my two cents: I don't think angel oath is dead. Actually, the rise of Ioona might be in favor of Angel Oath as a curve-ball because people are WORRIED about the ability of you to flip Iona, so they are playing around it while you chuckle at the McHasties you have ready to come smash face.

Then again, I love the more aggressive Oath builds (even though they have higher fizzle rates, less successful match-ups across the board, and roll over and die to force of will, there's just something fun about the beserk-psychoticfrenzy-final-fortune Hellkite Oath deck). Oath is oath, and in general the creatures you flip should be "I win", and Akroma is still "I win" in her hasted 6/6 way.

Actually, I suppose the biggest argument to be made for the "death" of Angel oath, if that is so, would be the hellkite, because why not just run another hellkite instead of Akroma?

Demonic Attourney recently played an Iona build.  It was very control-heavy, almost like a tezz build.  AND it ran Painter's servant/grindstone.  So if he oathed up painter, tutor for grindstone, GG.  If he Oathed up Iona, you get stalled for a turn, until painter comes into play.  Now you can't play any spells.  GG
