When I tap a howling mine with my icy manipulator, my opponent wont benefit from the howling mine.

But if I tap jitte with my icy manipulator, will jitte still work?

Yes, Jitte will still work. Tapping Jitte doesn't really do anything to it besides tapping it. The only reason Howling Mine is "off" when it is tapped is because the card specifically says that it doesn't work if it is tapped.

OK -So if I tap my winther orb at the end of my opponents turn with my Icy manipulator, I still wont be able to untap more than 1 land. Because the card doesnt say so?

Btw. Thx for your answer.

I have a lot of newbie questions, can you answer me this also:

If my opponent plays that Mary Lage 20/20 indestructible land, and afterwards that black card which removes all counters from a permant, and I respond by destroying it with strip mine, will he get a Marit lage or not?

First, Winter Orb does say that it is "turned off" if it is tapped. Rather than looking at the text on the card, you should look at the Oracle text, which can be found at http://gatherer.wizards.com. Since Winter Orb will be turned off during your untap step, you would get to untap more than one land.

Second, if you destroy Dark Depths after your opponent uses Vampire Hexmage to remove the counters, your opponent will not get a Marit Lage token. The reason is because when its triggered ability resolves, it looks to see if he actually sacrifices Dark Depths. Since he doesn't (you destroyed it with his Strip Mine), the triggered ability will resolve and see that he didn't sacrifice Dark Depths, so he won't get a token.

There are a handfull of cards that get turned off while tapped, Howling Mine, Winter Orb and Trinisphere being the most famous.  Some cards like Howling Mine have printings that don't say they get turned off, because when they were originally printed, all "continous artifacts" got turned off when tapped.  Rules changes let to errata on Howling Mine and Winter Orb and some others.

I'm not sure where to get the finite list of artifacts that turn off when tapped.

A quick search for "tapped artifact" in the rules forum brings up the following:  http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=37928.0
