So, I woke up this morning and saw an event request on facebook this coming Sunday for a Mox Ruby tournament at my local store. The good news is that it is unlimited proxies, and the bad news is I have zero experience whatsoever with Vintage. I looked around for decks, and http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=29633 jumped out at me.

Now, I have no idea what the meta is going to look like, but from what I understand there will be ~30 or so players in attendance. There is little or no Vintage played around here, so I'm expecting legacy decks with power, Time Vault decks with pilots with little to no experience, likely Null Rod strategies to prey on those same decks, and then just random stuff. After looking around, to me it seemed best not to try to play combo or control due to my lack of play time in the format, so it was between Null Rod aggro and Ichorid for me.

Are there any other suggestions for a different deck for me to play, or even any suggestions for changes to the linked Rock deck for this awkward meta?

The linked deck kind of looks like a worse version of BUG Fish.  There should be a topic for BUG Fish in the Open Forum that you might want to look into.

Dimir cutpurse looks weak in any undefined meta. You need to know that it's gonna hit fairly often.

What decks have you played in eternal formats before? Extended even?

If you feel apt to play ichorid, you could just swing for it. It's a lot more powerful than that rock deck, not extremely challenging (somewhat though) and if people are not used to playing against it or don't pack enough hate...

Though, I guess if the legacy meta is somewhat defined, many of the best players will have ichorid firmly on their radar.

I think I've decided that I'm going to risk getting hated out and run Ichorid, it looks to be enjoyable to play, and I would probably get a lot more testing in since it is such a fast deck.
