Some cards are misspelled by the organizer (link) or written in Spanish, but I think you can get an idea overall.

I'll post the deck breakdown as soon as possible.

And YES, that's a Top 8 were Tezzcast got paired against 6 Null Rod Decks (or 7 Fish kind Decks).

Cesar Congratz of putting up that fight, to bad you did lose the finals though.

On the other hand, 5 times Selki Strike or Noble Fish as it is called by you guys is really something.

I would love to see a deck breakdown of this event, because of this unreal top 8.

Thanks for posting.

Thats some awesome meta coverage there!

I was gonna ask if Cesar's decks were really that good, or if he has that Ochoa/Webster intimidation factor that makes opponents play suboptimally.

That sort of answered my question.

Thanks for lists etc!

Sure Tezzcast is THAT good, but still people don't wanna accept it. Just because it seem to have an unstable (or no strong) mana base, many artifacts, etc... People think it auto-loses against Rod decks, but this tournament and this Top8 was the example needed to prove that Null Rod decks are just the worst pairing of this deck, but is far from being an auto lose, much more when now I'm playing 3 REB + 4 Pyroclasm + 4 Ingot Chewer against them.

Spell Pierce and Compulsive Research, Tezzcast last tech (Even though Pierce is proving itself as an incredible counter around the world), are the reason why now it's far stronger than 3 months ago. Spell Pierce is THE COUNTER in Tezzcast, the perfect piece to solve the puzzle of resolving almost always Thoughtcast and Compulsive Research in the first three turns. I think that this is the fast Control Combo deck in the format and, as usual, the pity is that, while I don't understand, people rejects playing it... At least now it has proven itself to be consistent against Fish, this should be the breaking point in order to convince people playing it.

So far, as I did last year, this are Tezzcast results (played just by me and at MOX+ tournament prizes), which are also my results in Vintage for the last year and a half... Why don't play a deck with which you can Top8 so many times?

2008

- Top8, Gran final de la LMV - TezzCast
- Winner, 2º Torneo LMV2 - TezzCast
- Winner, 3º Torneo LMV2 - TezzCast
- 5-3, 29º, XXVIII Open de Madrid - TezzCast
- 3-3, 4º Torneo LMV2 - TezzSlaverCast

2009 (Pre-B&R)

- Top4, 5º Torneo LMV2 - TezzCast
- 3-3, 6º Torneo LMV2 - TezzCast
- Winner, 7º Torneo LMV2 - TezzCast
- 3-3, 3º Torneo LSV2 - TezzCast
- Top8, Cantrip Weekend Vintage - TezzCast
- 6-3, Bazaar of Moxen 3, Vintage - TezzCast
- Top4, 8º Torneo LMV2 - TezzCast
- Winner (Split), 9º Torneo LMV2 - TezzCast
- Winner, Vintage All Stars - TezzCast

2009 (Post-B&R)

- 4-2 (10º), 6º Torneo LSV - TezzCast
- Top8, 10º Torneo LMV2 - TezzCast
- 5-4, Ovinogeddon 4 - TezzCast
- Winner, Clasification Liga Madrileña de Vintage 2 - Tezzcast
- Top4, Gran Final de la LMV 2 - TezzCast
- Top8, IV Cantrip Weekend - TezzCast
- Finalist, 4 Pro-Loto Mungia - TezzCast

That sums up 6 Wins, 1 Final, 3 Top4 and 4 Top 8 (14 Top8s total) and 7 Tournaments not making the cut.

I'm just putting the results as I have them from an article I'm writing in english to post it here on TMD talking about the deck. Wish I could publish it this month, but I am always so busy...

Also: Does anyone cover the events as I do out there? Via iPhone on a blog/forum? Most people find it very interesting, and covering your own team is not so hard. People not playing the event follow it a lot!

Hi César,

Congratulations -again- for the great finish! And really cool way to report; keeping track of you and your team mates performances and very important: the results versus all the matchups.

I built Tezzcast a few months ago but I never felt confidant (heh...) enough to play it in a tournement, although test results wre VERY promising. It's just that I believe my Tezz mana base to be really stable and a big factor in today's meta: 16 lands, 3 Island and 1 Swamp. I've been playing it like this for some time now -got 9th (again!) in a tournement this weekend-, gradually adding lands until it played well against all the wastelands and Strip Mines around -man, I hate Strip Mine! Stephen stated in his article how important the mana base is. And you play no basic lands... and seem to be doing just fine! Smile
How does that work for you in the Stax matchup (5 color and MUD Aggro)? It seems to be doing just fine against fish...

I'm so very interested in your primer on the deck, please finish it soon! I'm very interested in card choices and strategies against the different matchups.

Thanks for the report,

Robrecht

Hey Cesar,
nice performance! again.

Regarding the dec, I can imagine that the spell pierces work out for you in this type of vault.dec. I tested the thoughtcast engine myself and while it wasn't bad I didn't feel that it is that good. Its still a sorcery and most of the time it still cost 3 mana. I really don't like the compulsive researches at sorcery speed! Did you test sensei/repeal? I really like playing 1st turn sensei and then end of 2nd turn repeal, which draws the same (or more) as compulsive at instant speed. Furthermore, I question that you still play no gifts (which is strictly superior than FoF, imo).

It is fascinating to see, how Noble Fish dominates certain metas. Workshops have no chance against it and the only one combo-control deck that made its way through the wall of Nobles was one which dedicated lots of sideboard space to fight it. More storm combo and dredge could keep Noble in check a bit, but this would certainly be the moment where Noble would adjust its sideboard arsenal as well.

Ho yes, I played the old version in a french tournament where I made 10th because my 2 looses vs Ichorid in Swiss.
If I had sideboarded correctly It may have been better than my 4-2 record with the deck.
