For sure, I would play the deck again, but with a few changes and a better sideboard. I'll discuss the deck in my SCG article next week. I definitely think you want two overlapping combos. Helm-line is the better one. The secondary one might be Metalworker / Staff, Painter / Grindstone, or something else. Even just running a bunch of high-power artifact creatures (Sundering Titans for instance) might work because the deck has access to so much colorless mana. The engine surrounding those cards needs testing, too. Enlightened Tutor and Intuition would both be very strong. Confindant might be better than Serum Powder main, but Powder helps you beat Dredge and anything without Force of Wills (and minimizes the need for mulligans). Anyway its a fun deck and deceptively powerful once you get a handle on which hands you can keep and how to play out the threats.
Deck sure hates Null Rod, though.
Its interesting to see the Dark Depths list place high again. Is this a lucky finish for the deck or is mono-black aggro combo a serious player? What was the total number of players?
Dark Times is a serious deck. It really is quite good. I think theres some minor tweaks to Max's main that make it more consistent, but its a very solid design and definitely tops among the "budget" decks.
That said, I misplayed my way out of the top 4 in game 3 of the top 8.
There were 27 players at this one I think... something around there.
Nick, FYI Sean's deck has no sideboard listed.
