If I have 'animated' a non-creature artifact with Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas' second ability, so that it is a 5/5 artifact creature, and then I play Copy Artifact copying that 'animated' artifact, does Copy Artifact also become a 5/5 artifact creature?  Or is it just an unanimated copy of the artifact card?

Copy Artifact's oracle text - "You may have Copy Artifact enter the battlefield as a copy of any artifact on the battlefield, except it's an enchantment in addition to its other types."

Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas's second ability oracle text - "-1: Target artifact becomes a 5/5 artifact creature."

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

It's unanimated. Copy effects are applied in Layer 1, before anything else. Type changing comes way later, and PT changes come very last.

The basic rule of thumb for copy effects is that you will pretty much always get the baseline version of whatever you're copying. If you activate a Mishra's Factory, then Clone it, the Clone comes in as an unactivated version of the Factory.

I suppose it's mostly the thought that this format is just one big Mistake; and not even a very sophisticated one at that.

Drat, I had hopes of drawbackless 5/5s for  {1} {U}.

Just for reference...

Quote
706.2. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original object’s
characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode,
targets, the value of X, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on). The
“copiable values” are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name,
mana cost, card type, subtype, supertype, expansion symbol, rules text, power, toughness, and/or
loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by “as . . . enters the battlefield” and “as . . . is turned
face up” abilities that set characteristics, and by abilities that caused the object to be face down.
Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not
copied.
Example: Chimeric Staff is an artifact that reads “{X}: Chimeric Staff becomes an X/X
artifact creature until end of turn.” Clone is a creature that reads, “You may have Clone
enter the battlefield as a copy of any creature on the battlefield.” After a Staff has become a
5/5 artifact creature, a Clone enters the battlefield as a copy of it. The Clone is an artifact,
not a 5/5 artifact creature. (The copy has the Staff’s ability, however, and will become a
creature if that ability is activated.)

Standard players used to use Mirrorweave with Mutavault to turn a player's attacking army into a bunch of non-activated lands
