On a personal note I'd like to thank everyone that came out for making the event a blast
The guys and I had always talked about being able to bring Vintage back home to us someday, since all we've done for the past few years is drive up and down the East Coast nonstop. The Community is growing, and the format is extremely open. This is possibly one of the most fun and exciting times in recent vintage history. Full of Win games is home to more of the faces in the Vintage world than you probably realize, and from all of us, we are truly grateful to be a part of the community, and to have your support. Here's to the next one being just as good a time.
Props:
1 The People 2 Tendrils of Agony making a comeback. Need I say more? Favorite kill condition in Vintage. If it ain't broken, fix it! 3 The miles I saved on my car compared to other events
Personal Favorite Match of the day
Vs John Bomersheim (BOOM Headshot!) Oath
Game 3
Boomer and I both have a few land on the field, and not much else going on. John plays Show and Tell. We both put our cards down on the table. Since John is on Golden Gun, of course Emrakul flips on his side of the table. I don't know if any of you know what that card does, but to summarize its abilities, it tears aeons.
Now, as you probably know, the average blue player has a very limited amount of permanents in his deck. However, as every blue player also knows, out of all 60 cards in the deck, the singleton Blightsteel Colossus is in 90% of the pilot's hands. It's science.
Game on.
Boomer passes the turn. My hand is tinker Mox Ruby, Tropical Island, Force of Will, Gush. I swing with the Coloussus and bring the Flying Sphagetti Monster down to a 4/4., Pass it back. The Emrakul wipes my board and hits me from 14 to 10. I draw Mox emerald and pass the turn back. At this point I'm feeling pretty unlucky. If i draw Fastbond and a land perhaps I can Gush into some sort of Tinker turn that would allow me to put the colossus back online and kill emrakul. The pint sized annihilator brings me from 10 to 6 and boomer ships the turn back. I draw Jace, the Game Winner. Now things get interesting. I start hoping against hope, Perhaps if i draw Ancestral, into a land and fastbond, i can gush and replay into Jace. Emrakul swings me down to 2. Boomer passes the turn back to me, and the doom is quite impending.
Things are looking pretty grim, and I've rapidy cycled through the 7 stages of grief and accepted the fact that my fate is most likely giant flying cthulu death, but I'm not one to scoop the game up before considering all of the options. Now, I ask myself, what was all of this playtesting for? Clearly in my years of playtesting with Jeremy Beaver, the answer would be to draw what you need off the top, and come back from the brink of defeat with an epic nuts play.
I draw for turn. Black Lotus. That works too! Play out Mox, Mox, Land, Lotus, Jace. Boomer attempts to flusterstorm, but it turns out Jace isn't an instant or sorcery. Jace is in! The legend does what he does best and bounces the Emrakul back to Boomer's hand, and i run away with the game from there. Sitting at 2 life, staring down a creature whose past hobby is tearing aeons, for more turns than one.
That's how you play Magic, ladies and gentlemen.
