40 players showed up at Top Deck Games for the latest NEV Series spectacular. There were six rounds of Swiss followed by a cut to the Top 8. At the end of the day, it was Matt Elias dredging his way to an NEV Series title!

Top 8:

Matt Elias (Dredge) defeats Ryan Glackin (Dredge)
Josh Potucek (Empty Gush) defeats Shawn Griffiths (Martello)
Alex Lin (Merfolk) defeats Rob Edwards (Landstill)
Justin Kohler (Bomberman) defeats Joel Lim (Merfolk)

Top 4:

Matt Elias defeats Josh Potucek
Alex Lin defeats Justin Kohler

Finals:

Matt Elias defeats Alex Lin

Congratulations to Matt, Alex, and all of our Top 8 finishers!

Really like the Dredge lists.  Will be interesting to see how the new Dredge hate impacts the deck.

Important note as well:  Not only was their a 100% Top 8 penetration of Dredge, but also for Merfolk.  Congrats to all the competitors, but especially to Mr. Matt Elias!

Thanks!  I can't wait to see what you do with Fish in the coming months, there's some nice new toys to play with in RTR.

Hell yeah, Alex!  2nd place at his first Vintage tournament.

Highlight of the day was the Top 8 Dredge mirror.  ROUSING game!   Wink

Another great event.  Hopefully this merfolk thing doesn't catch on.  Seems bad for me, haha.

Pokey, I think your mulligans in the semis hurt more than the matchup. Was it M5 game 1, M4 game 2? You did 2-0 merfolk in rd 1 of top 8. Dredge and shops are big problems for the deck so until thats addressed, I would caution future merfolk pilots.

I did mull to 5 and then 4 in games one and two, respectively, which played a large part in me losing the match.  While any matchup is winnable, the merfolk matchup is one I'd rather not face.  When your deck is 25% counters, it's not cool for your opponent to have 4x Vial and 4x Caverns.
