Everyone in the affected areas has heard this already, but it bears repeating; please, ensure your own safety and the safety of loved ones as you evacuate affected areas and head to higher ground.  Current estimates have Long Island being hit with 5-11 ft storm surges of water, New Jersey looks like it may have worse than that, and Connecticut seems to be in the same boat as Long Island; if you live in the low lying areas make sure you're safe.

LIPA (Long Island Power Authority) is saying that we may lose power for up to a week after the storm hits, so make sure you're set with batteries, flashlights, etc.  I'm filling up my car with a full tank of gas, and I have bottled water and dry food to last a while.  Do the same.  For more info from LIPA, check here:

http://www.lipower.org/stormcenter/

It looks like New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are going to be hit with the brunt of this storm, follow up with local advice:

Nassau County:  http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/

Suffolk County:  http://scoem.suffolkcountyny.gov/

NYC:  http://www.nyc.gov/html/index.html

New York State: http://ny.gov/

New Jersey: http://nj.gov/

Connecticut: http://www.ct.gov/

Take precautions and be safe!

See you all on the flip side.

Thank you for posting this info, Nick. This is a fantastic community.
But, may I ask, who needs food and water when you have ample batteries for your synthesizer...

School is closed everywhere.  So I was going to go into work.  Boss called, no work.  Tomorrow is going to be a very boring day.

Cross your fingers; hopefully this hurricane, which looks to be barreling down directly towards my neck of the woods, doesn't cause much more damage then it already has.  Already have a friend with a tree on (not in) their house.

Fun, fun, fun.

I just moved to the east end of Toronto (Canada, -north of new york) and the beach is literally at my doorstep. Hopefully this gets downgraded a bit soon.

I think it would be really fun being trapped at TDG playing some candlelight vintage/board games throughout the night.
In all seriousness everyone stay safe

Do any of my Nassau County friends know of any gas stations that still have gas?  I'm set for about a week, but I have a coworker with a one year old who has a generator that's about to go out.
