Hello!

Dumb question:
Does the Painter's Servant/Grindstone combo work w/Rest in Piece in play? I don't believe it does, but can't explain exactly why by quoting the rules which apply.

Yes.  Grindstone checks the cards no matter where they went, and since Painter's Servant checks exile, it'll work all the same.  I don't have rules to prove this, but its similar to the Leyline of the Void questions here, since Rest in Peace works identically: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=judge/article/20090406a
