I love that John continues to just play whatever he feels like. It's great.

Congrats, John, Will, Josh, and Glackin.

Always cool to see people who have been playing vintage forever in this area do well.

Also congrats to the winner!

I had my doubts about merfolk but I got smashed in testing against it playing gush so I'm more of a believer now.

Edit: AND MATT ELIAS!!! Keeping it real with the rituals... I'm choosing to believe you play that deck for your love of combo over love of oath. I know Bob Tendrils was your favorite deck in years past... ehh ehh?

Somewhere in the 9th-24th place range.
A deck containing at least one Jace, the Mind Sculptor.
A deck containing at least one Mishra's Workshop.

Joking aside, the players you are asking about are Andrew Close, Visna Harris and Scott Hughes (in that order).  I'll leave those answers to them.

I'm sick of the inaccuracy in the breakdown of archetypes!!! It should be:

Jaces
Workshops
Rituals
Rods
Bazaars
Visna

Enough already!!!

Congrats to the rest of Top 8! This was a tough field overall, one that even Pokey wasn't even able to crack Top 8 in, a unique rarity in 2013. And in Josh's tourney report, his run to the finals looked like quite the gauntlet.

The top 8 field was basically a nightmare for Merfolk. Running good and being on my game (mostly) apparently offset my stubborness to play this deck in a field with only 7 favorable matchups. Feels good both personally and in my faith in the deck to back-to-back against all the odds!

So long and thanks for all the grapes! Victory Grapes!

Shoutout to Jon Jones for keeping it real with the homebrews and getting back into the top 8 swing. You might be my favorite vintage player alive.

Props to my Burning Oath comrades. As much fun as I made of that f***ing deck, it is a sweet sweet pile to play with: and if you notice, has been cracking top 8s all over the place, usually in pairs (for some reason).

Congratulations to JLim for winning, and continuing the Slaughter Smurfs tradition, because suck it, that article DeMars wrote forever ago.

High five to all of the Top 8, of course. It's a rough X rounds when almost every one of them is a Name now, yeah? Who's up for storming GenCon with NE wizardry?

Finally, brofist bumpsplosion to the fact that Dark Rituals are almost an even contender to Dr. Wiley's Robot Masters anymore. Is Burning Oath secretly Megaman? Only this summer will tell.

And, of course, slops to having to miss this, but a family wedding reception was happening and I certainly wasn't missing that. I'll be back with some crazy noise next time, though, because my new motto is "What Would John Jones Play?"
