Congrats Josh and Rob!  I have to say this was one of the liveliest events at TPG I've been to.  Despite having terrible luck with Blightsteel Colossus, flipping him over to Bob and then drawing him into hand right before Tinkering, the Jace Vault deck was still a fun change of pace and I was glad to see the high turnout.  Will be back next month!

This was a fun event and cool to see all the cool people as usual. It was a total bonus winning the emerald.  One more piece and I can play any deck at worlds.  Thanks again to all my awesome opponents, the players guild, and the oeople who run the place. Good times and I hope to make another in the near future...

I agree with Josh.  Always a great time at The Players Guild, Shawn and Brandon are very cool owners/TO's.  It was great to see everyone in the community out slinging cards.  I had a good day, filled with luck, tight play AND sloppy play.  Quasi-mini report:

Apparently, I woke up with Magic Christmas Land Dust sprinkled about my head and face. Buddy John K, his girl Ashley, Capn' Chris and I arrive to a 29 player field.  Who gets the bye?  The guy with the enormous beard...that's who.

Rd1 Bye
(so good at Magic when the dust is on ya!)

Rd2 Rob Edwards on Aggro Skull Shops (win 2-0)
Shaman, Bob flips, and land drops were all kind to me in these games.  An E.E. on zero took out a germ token at one point and reduced Robs chances of gaining back life.  I board in 2 extra lands for this matchup, and board out the missteps/flusterstorms.  Rob is one of the best players around so it is good to be playing against high quality skills to see how the deck performs.

Rd3 James K. on Martello Shops (win 2-0)
We both take mulligans to 6 in game 1 and James is light on mana in both games.  Game 1 I flash in Clique and he does some work.  Game 2 he gets a Sphere and Thorn out early, but my extra mana sources help me fight from under the lock, and he stalls on mana.

Rd4 Nick Coss (I.D.)

Rd5 Mykie Noble (I.D.)

Top 8 Steve Thompson on Martello Shops (win 2-1)
Steve gets a solid lock down early, turn 1 Sol Ring, Sphere, turn 2 Sphere and revoker, Turn 3 Tangle Wire.  Something along those lines.  I scoop to game 2 and bring in 4 Dismember, 2 extra lands, Hurkyl's, and Steel Sab.  Games 2 and 3 were hard fought under locks, but again, hitting land drops, favorable Bob flips, and an EOT Hurkyl's after Steve tutored up Myr-Ball and his mini army was clutch on game 2.  Game 3 Steve opens with Thorn, Revoker on my Sapphire, and LSG.  Things look bleak, but I'm able to drop Trygon Predator and swing over the top of his guys and get there.

Top 4 Josh Potucek on Blue Angels (loss 1-2)
Game one is a grinder with me hitting some key counterspells at the right moments, not over extending my guys, and using Deathrite Shaman to do his -2 life every turn.  He gets some fliers on board right towards the end, but shaman was able to win the race.  Games 2-3 I board incorrectly and keep hands with little action, and a bit too much reaction.  Probably a mistake, because Josh's deck is going to out-counter me all day long.  I never feel like I'm in those 2 games, and Jace ultimate game 3 seals it up for Josh, a great opponent, and all around cool guy.

I really enjoyed playing this deck.  A lot of people know I am a Noble Fish player, so this deck felt pretty good to me as I was learning a little on the fly.  Snapcaster Mage felt a little underwhelming at times, and the Notion Thief in the sideboard never saw play.  It was intended for Mana Drain decks, but could just be too slow.

Props: John Koprowski getting back on the scene and driving us down, Nick Coss showing up!, Round 1 byes, air conditioning, Brandon Brown for altering my wife's EDH general, awesome opponents/store/owners,  Wings and Yuengs at the 'Lube

Slops:  BK vanilla milkshake that tasted like a cleaning agent, my sideboarding choices against Blue Angels,  using Abrupt Decay on an active SDT = punt

What a good day for vintage good times good people and good games. Was good.to see nick stroll in the only down note was with 27 people there I got paired up against the person I came down with in the first round
After only playing 2 other events in the past year I decided to shake up my deck construction for my return to vintage. I am very appy with how the changes worked out. All the additions were all-stars all day. Deatrite shaman, abrupt decay and extirpate all won me games, and even when they didn't win it they still performed better than what they replaced. Most fun I had was sitting at 56 life with a sylvan library and bob in play. Made one huge play error, but a top 8 finish is a top 8 finish. I felt l was in every game, even my losses (except my match in the top 8 against rob, that was just a slaughter)

Didn't you know that the reporter checks how far you have travelled with someone to get to an event and gives you  a greater% likelihood of playing those people you have travelled a long way with

I fell victim to carmate pairings in the quarterfinals, so I know the feeling.  It was fun learning the matchups all day with a new deck, as I got Workshop, Fish, Dredge and Ritual matchups for a well-rounded day.  I look forward to being better prepared for next Saturday's Lancaster event.

@ Shawn . Thanks for the great day of card flopping.

Props to J-pot, Jon, Nick, Rob, Mike, Sean and the rest of the top8.

I got to take home the 9th place Andre the giant palm slap on my second degree sunburn via Nick Coss. It's what I get for playing dredge, I accept that.

Well going by the deck name 4 nightscape familiars?  Really it could be anything he has pretty much all the cards one would expect.

I'd be a hypocrite if I made a post correcting the contents of any deck in the original post, so y'all have to use your imagination.
