Flash is good, but I actually like the Trample on this guy.  How many fliers in Vintage have butts?  I mean, the biggest you are likely to see (barring certain artifact creatures) is an Angel with 4 toughness.  Usually you will be facing 1 toughness fliers.  Chimera punches through them like cardboard to deliver the finishing blow.
Again, the ready comparison is to Young Pyromancer. The question is whether counting played spells is better than costing {U} less and growing vertically instead of horizontally.

My suspicion is that this is actually a one-of in some Pyromancer decks simply as a way to avoid Pyroclasm/token hate issues.

He might be better than that.  He has a good deal in common with Goyf, in that he grows over time as you just play the game.  He costs more and remains vulnerable to bolt, but in return he's evasive in several ways.  I don't know that Goyf would be playable at 1GG either, frankly, but I think this dork is definitely something to watch.

The biggest obsticle for this to over come and see play is lightnig bolt. Bolt is already pretty good as is without this dude flying around.

I'm willing to look for potential in some new cards that might be too easily dismissed but I think this thing is suboptimal in Vintage.  If it ever came into play after someone activated Oath of Druids, I'd feel relieved and probably win within the next two turns.  The Trample is mostly redundant on a flier; it's like putting Deathtouch on a 7/x creature.  Serendib Efreet is better in nearly every non-Christmas-land scenario, doesn't nonbo with flashback + YawgWill, and doesn't have to worry about opposing Deathrite Shamans or Lightning Bolts for that matter.

I just want to go on record saying that oathing this into play is one of the worst things you could possibly do with oath of druids.

edit: barring doing obviously bad things on purpose like Phage obv

A large advantage of Oath is that it completely shrugs off graveyard hate. Chimera is terrible because you lose that advantage without gaining anything meaningful in return.

When I first tried oath I used a psychatog and defy gravity. That never caught on but seems just as good as this. Defy Gravity can be updated with traitor's clutch.

Why bother with Clutch when this dude flies and tramples?

In a deck with FoF/the new UR FoF, and/or the Intiution/AK engine, this guy could easily still be a ridiculously good creature. And don't forget you can always just play Anger to give him haste.....

And there's the line. You crossed it. TMD now officially has Theros fever. This set is so bad that we now talk about 4 cmc spells that nobody plays AND worse variants of them as making a 3 cmc creature whose only ability is to beat down good.

I hereby designate this the Chimera thread:

Man if we're going to bring Defy Gravity and Traitors Clutch into the mix why don't we just mention Psychotic Fury and ~this~ equals a near death blow. And you get to draw a card to boot! Seriously though I think the Chimera has some potential in the right deck.

Would Berserk be a viable option? Or, if going that route, it would be better to just go with Psychatog?
I think Berserk is too slow these days (mainly because you don't want to waste maindeck space with it and probably has to play with Cunning Wish).
