Next Level Vintage: Mega Eternal Weekend

On Sunday the 29th December we had 22 players make their way out to Next Level Games for our last event of 2013.  We had 25 players for the Australian Highlander tournament the day before  and 22 is an awesome showing. With a Mox Ruby and a pile of Judge foils to be given out we certainly sent the year out with a bang.

It was a great day overall and there was plenty of fun to be had. The Melbourne Vintage League had games being played before, after and even in between rounds of the tournament. At the end of 5 rounds of Swiss we had a top 8. In order; our final standings were:

Great showing from the Vintage community again, considering the time of year!
The tournament was great, the matches fun and the meta diverse.

Classic Vintage moments I witnessed:
"Judge, I cast Vampiric Tutor and accidentally put my hand on top of my library"
2 of my workshop opponents finishing the game with no permanents in play
Winning a game against Graham in the Semi's that I had no business winning due to his dual Bobs being amazingly uncooperative, even with Jace's help
Scooping to the workshops player on turn 2 because you can't beat a Lodestone with a SoFI equipped
"Man, maybe I SHOULD have played my 4x Chains of Mephistopheles deck"
Almost dying to triple Vengevine on turn 3

Wow, that's one spicy brew, and I know my spicy brews after losing to RG Survival in a top 8 on video recently. I have to say though, as someone who was tossing around Survival ideas on these forums recently, I completely missed the interaction of Vorzal and Dreadnaught, and I have to say that's a pretty awesome interaction looking at the deck.


I also would like to ask Tim, even if I'm not sure if he goes on these forums, but has he considered Big Game Hunter? It's a pretty good madness card that eats Lodestones and other big guys while letting you tutor up more guys.

Also, if it wasn't the Survival deck, which deck did this, it sounds epic:

Big Game hunter seems sick. A bit cute and narrow but sick none the less

But isn't that the benefit of Survival? That you can get away with having a couple narrow creatures?

Additionally, he does do some good stuff, he kills Lodestone, Tarmogoyf, Battleball, and other big dudes. He can also just be an instant speed 1/1 that blocks a Dark Confidant or whatever when they're not expecting it. I really wish he hit things with power 3 or greater, because then he'd just be super amazing in this type of deck.

Edit: Also, Scavenge doesn't say "Creature's you control", it targets anything, so you can Scavenge off Voralz onto their guys in order to Big Game Hunter their creatures.

To me it seems a little too contextual.  There are so many matchups where he will just be a 1/1. I like my silver bulets to be complete hosers are be applicable in a number of matchups and I dont think big game hunter is either.

I could be wfong, I have not spoken witb Tim but that is my gut feeling
