I was thinking this in conjunction with my Darkblast and Sensei's Divining Top engine in the Human Oath of Ghoul decks. I also ran Life from the Loam to wastelock, get a resource advantage and fill my grave for Deathrite and Oath of Ghouls.

So would you see this card as an answer against spot removal, a way to get back your 2cc bears in play?

And secondly, as I describe in my first sentences, could this be a way to sneak in creatures into play with Darkblast/Top? (instant speed)

Three mana is a little steep for this effect.  Once he is online it seems super cute to mill two, theb dakblast out the creature you want, but what are you really accomplishing?  You're making your dorks cost 1 less and have flash for the low low price of 3 mana and vulnerability to yard hate.

This guy is an awesome tool for a Heroic deck in other formats, turning useless enablers into bodies, but I'm not seeing him in Vintage.

I don't do 'cute', the ability to flash creatures into play (in this case from the graveyard) seems very strong to me. Think about situations where you need to quickly rebuild board presence. If you have build up 4 mana and you topdeck this dude with darkblast in hand and an active top, you can quickly get back destroyed and countered creatures in 2 turns. And note that each time you darkblast, you are potentially hitting more 2cc creatures and you can animate them in play for  {B} (at instant speed).

The card is very interesting and was one of the last cards spoiled. I have followed the threads created so far, and this one is actually one of the more interesting cards that could be discussed.

This new set has surprised me a lot with really strange new idea's/prints. A lot of these new cards have a mysterious side, there is something 'unclear' about how they would play out in games. I think this is a fantastic way to design. It is not easy to make assessment and this card seems one of them.

Guli, I used to think your ideas were farfetched, but I've learned that you are VERY innovative and I REALLY like this card, you seem to have Busted it right open. I'd like to see a list if possible.

What do you get back with him? There are a fair number of dorks that actually hurt your strategy that i would think would be prime targets.

Bob is good but counter synergistic with darkblast and this deck would probably have a higher curve than others on average
Thalia would make your darkblasts cost more
Stoneforge would mess up your top into darkblast set up
Gravehate bears would stop your darkblasting

Rancor?

Work on a list that either has a clock and then has cards like Oath/Loam if your opponent survives to the midgame.  Trample seems increasingly relevant.

I was gonna say Flickering ward would be amazing here, provided you would even have enough targets in the yard.

Surely you can time and manipulate accordingly?

I would think Revoker is a good start. A card that can stop Ooze and Deathrite and a zillion other things. Would be interesting to flash a Revoker in play in response to a Jace or Time Vault.

Thalia would indeed make things more expensive, but I think it this can also be overcome with moxes and mana dudes.

I can also think of interesting synergies with Gifts Ungiven, Intution, Entomb and Fact or Fiction.

The problem is: how many spells that make target to our creatures are really playable? Darkblast is playable, but it's a 1 for 1 in best scenarios. I love shadow rift, but it would be just U: cycling most of the time.

I would first test Darkblast and Top. If I notice I need some additional targeted effects, I would try to find reusable ones like darkblast. For example punishing fire.

I think 2-3 Tops and 2-3 Darkblast is fine, add in a Life from the Loam too (finds darkblast as well).
